Weed growers thread

Your immediate priority should be the spider mites that are eating your plant alive. An organic insecticide like Margaret Roberts will work, but with that infestation I'd use Ludwig's or Pyrol

Thanks! Is that why the leaves are all patchy? I hacked this bush down anyway. Had another one like this from a friend and also remember seeing a tiny spider thing.

Do praying mantis's eat them? I have a little one on another plant, its guarding it

Thats what causes the white spots on the leaves. They're too tiny for anything besides baby mantises & lady bugs. A good insecticide is the only surefire way of getting rid of them, you can also spray them off with a hose with a strong stream if not too badly infested. Whitefly also cause similar damage & are tougher to get rid of...

Spots could also be thrips, spider mites usually climb to the top of the plant and create a lot of webs. If you notice small black flies hanging around the base of your plant, especially after watering, then you have thrips.

Thanks good to know for the next one.

I just had a look where I am hanging this to dry and there are a few still on there, but on the leaves.

Do you think a close trim would do it? Don't have much bud from this little harvest anyway (due to the mildew) so I am not worried about long term storage and what they do. In other words haha, you think I can carry on (after a good trim) and if they are still there, just smoke the little buggers

Also noticed 3-4 on my newer plant. I just pulled them off and killed them.

Obviously can't get to a nursery now. Can I use a 90%/10% water/alcohol (70% alcohol content) mixture to spray the plants?

My other tiny plant has lots on.

Do they spread from one plant to another even if they are far apart (1m +)?

Thanks!

Yes they will go from plant to plant. Its going to be very difficult finding something now that could help.

I just germinated some seeds and want to plant in pots indoors discretely.

I see some of these plants get quite large.

Is there a heavy smell when they grow?

Ah alright thanks. So I read a bit more and tried a vinegar solution on my tiny plant that has almost 0 bud growing anyway (the 15cm plant) and will see what it does. Sprayed the bottom leaves of my main plant (where there were 3-4) and will see if the leaves curl or anything and the mixture does anything.

Needless to say, lesson learnt. Don't just let friends give you plants without putting them in quarantine.

Not just that, I added some potting soil from builders the other day to cover the roots (you need to also cover the roots of your plants) and the soil was ****d and is causing a huge imbalance in my plants.

Something else for your next grow, which I am also going to do, is to plant marigolds close by, they deter things like thrips etc.

Alcohol dissolves thc, so will do more harm than good in flower. A teaspoon baking soda to 2l water will keep the mildew under control till harvest. I get mildew every year & it's honestly not a big deal if you bud wash & if it's kept under control.

Yes... depending on the strain, you might not want it in your house. Cheese & skunk are some of the smelliest. Blueberry & haze/amnesia are sweet smelling, blueberries & citrus respectively.

Thanks, yeah I guess the random cheaper soils we can buy are full of things as well and can also have spider mites. Really thinking of buying some proper (R200 a bag) soil if I do the indoor grow. Might save in the long term with bug spray etc.

Yeah as said that plant was from a mate. He had two growing in the same pot, so ripped the one nice purple one out. Hence this one was so skew. I then added what soil I had. Was really just a finish off the grow kind of thing and not put too much effort.

Marigolds, ah okay. Interesting. I'll have to give that a go. I watched a really cool video last night - some what related, and he planted clovers, but that was for the organic side. Really nice simple grow though, here it is and well worth the watch:

Thanks thats some good advice. Will this reduce it if it is also already there a fair amount?

Also figured most outdoor grows must get this with all the rain we have (in JHB at least). Because unless you are there all day to take the plants in and out, what can you really do except leave it outside.

It might not get rid of all of it, but should clear up most of it & stop it from spreading. Just rinse your buds at harvest.

Awesome thanks, have written this in my little grow book for next time :)

No, I saved the drawing from a Reddit thread (if memory serves) a while ago. Immediately thought of it when I read your comments. And Bananaman was a staple on SABC in the 90's I think. I'm of the opinion a lot of kids watched it ironically because it was even terrible for its time. But heck, we weren't spoilt for choice in those days.

Haha well either way, props to you bud!

I don't remember it in all honesty. I was more on the Gummi Bears train, and the magic school bus ironically

I still watch Gummi Bears with my kids. They love it unironically :)
