Weight Loss Thread 2014

Sounds like you have a very unique digestive system. I would suggest that you add some more carbs to stimulate the appetite, sounds like you're hunger response mechanism might be a bit borked

I'll look at introducing some carbs from carrots. They are awesome, and I'm happy to eat 'em daily.

I'm going to investigate further. I'm still in the beginning phases of figuring this all out.

It could be that I am simply not eating enough. I just don't have an appetite after I eat in the morning, until the next day. I am forcing myself to eat at least twice, but compared to what I used to gobble, I'm consuming virtually nothing.

Sounds to me like you're starving yourself...

Well it's been an interesting week, my body is loving this new take on things. Doing a lot of exercise daily (a lot lot, heh) and actually really enjoying it. I think I want to be a little more strict from next week though, maybe drop from 50g carbs to 30g carbs and see. So glad I started reading this thread when I did.

I support your overall approach. Perhaps you're taking in too much protein though if you're reading a lot of red meat. I had way too much protein yesterday and I felt like crap this morning. The general guideline should be a portion of meat about the size and thickness of the palm of your hand. Meat should also be grass fed , not grain fed. Also variety between beef, lamb, pork and chicken. I prefer lamb and pork because they tend to be fattier than beef.

I suspect it's the quality rather than the quantity although the SO did come home with around 1kg of biltong for me yesterday!!! Of which I consumed about 500grams. Considering it's dehydrated meat, that would be like eating a kg of sirloin!!

Will definitely be more selective though...

I did actually jump on the scale earlier, as much as I despise the thing, but it did indicate a drop of around 3kg's... It's incredibly inaccurate and temperamental though so I'm not paying much credence to it...

Potatoes are carbs.

It's tough to get the hang of a low-carb lifestyle. I operate on a simple basis - less than 50g of carbs per day. So Ican have a slice of bread. I can make pizzas with wraps instead of pizza dough. I can even have a hamburger made with *gasp* flour-based buns. But the rest of the day then needs to be carb-free...

Potato is ok imo (not fried). I avoid bread, pizza, pasta, beer, sugar, alcohol etc.

I am not sure it mentions Spelt specifically, but basically ancient wheats are better, but not ideal.

*edit*

One of the main problems with wheat is the gluten in the wheat, which I presume Spelt has.

We have a local pizzeria that does a Gluten free pizza apparently made with Spelt!! Well, that's what they claim....

Spelt contains about 57.9 percent carbohydrates (excluding 9.2 percent fibre), 17.0 percent protein and 3.0 percent fat, as well as dietary minerals and vitamins.[9] As it contains a moderate amount of gluten, it is suitable for some baking. However, because spelt contains gluten it is not suitable for people with coeliac disease.[10] In comparison to hard red winter wheat, spelt has a more soluble protein matrix characterized by a higher gliadin:glutenin ratio.[11][12]

Mmmmm, so high in carbs in any event. There's no such thing as a low carb pizza sadly...

I had my wrap pizzas last night. Totally low carb, crispy, delicious, done in 5 minutes from start to finish, and full of good fats...
