Weight Loss Thread 2014

Been a week and a half. Have lost a total of 6.5kg so far.

No cheating, but bringing veggies into my diet now.

I'm reading a book called "Death by Food Pyramid" at the moment. It's kinda depressing, looking back at what happened to nutrition and the foods accepted as normal in the last century it's like a sick, bad joke on humans, by humans. As the book notes, American industry figured out how to turn waste products into food and the government then made it into guidelines for healthy eating.
Have a look through Economic History for more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cottonseed_oil

Procter and Gamble then found an edible use for cottonseed oil. Through patented technology, the brothers were able to hydrogenate cottonseed oil and develop a substance that closely resembled lard.[13] In 1911, Procter & Gamble launched an aggressive marketing campaign to publicize its new product, Crisco, a vegetable shortening that could be used in place of lard.[15] Crisco placed ads in major newspapers advertising that the product was "easier on digestion...a healthier alternative to cooking with animal fats. . . and more economical than butter.”[16] The company also gave away free cookbooks, with every recipe calling for Crisco.[16] By the 1920s the company developed cookbooks for specific ethnicities in their native tongues.
:sick::mad::sick::(
(Crisco is margarine if you didn't know)

What ya'll think of the latest Biggest Loser controversy? http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...skinny-20140205,0,4321687.story#axzz2sYgBonmm

Young lady went from almost 120kg to under 50 o.O
I think her make-up artist should definitely be replaced.

This post probably changed the most for me.
I refer to this url: http://eatingacademy.com/why-i-decided-to-lose-weight
It was what I found when I was reading through his blog. See that is pretty much how I look, and its not for lack of exercise or careful eating. I do just over an hour of exercise on weekdays and just over 2 hours on weekends but it makes no difference to weight or body fat.
I currently weigh 101kg's I did a triathlon this weekend in a pretty decent time and I can hop in a pool and swim 3ks without stopping at a whim or cycle 60ks, but never weight less than that or get any thinner.

So Im getting all the info together and Im going to start changing my eating to see if I can finally get rid of the fat and start being more competitive. a 101kg athlete can never really compete with a 70kg one!!

I just want to publicly thank Chicken Boo for his advice and efforts. Epic stuff.

I'm ashamed I haven't started yet!

Lol, you're welcome. No need for shame, you had your reasons. Get into it in your own time and let it become a natural part of your life.

I cant read through the whole thread now(tis a little long) does anyone have any links to starter diets or something similar?
Or should I just start on the lines of eating normally and cutting out all sugars?

That is what I did. Completely cut out sugars and then started cutting carbs. Soon after that you will want to cut almost all carbs anyway.

Plenty of help on here too if you are unsure about anything.

Just Google "Paleo" or LCHF Diet". The first few site will give you a very good idea of what to have and what not and why it works.

Made perfect sense to me.

Hi Folks

This is exactly what I have done.

I was 128Kg and size 44 waist in June last year.
I have cut out all sugar (except for some chocolate now and again) and have not touched bread, reduced my rice, pasta and potato intake... and I am now 116Kg and size 41 waist. It amazes me how much of the belly-fat can be trimmed by a change in diet only.

I can identify with the above sentiment completely... thus have now subscribed to this thread.

Food for thought this then be !

Congrats! :)

Congrats to all of you. Some people need to make the gradual changes, its not everyone that can go cold turkey on sugars and carbs and come out smelling of roses on the other side.

Its Lifestyle change.... and some people stumble a few times before it eventualy sticks. Just keep trying.

I had to cold turkey, my brain is just wired like that. Was about two weeks of discomfort, then mostly okay (aside from crippling fatigue, which seems under control now with extra foods and a supplement or two!).

Hi all

Nice one dude.

Congrats! :)

Shot... goal weight is 99Kgs this June... ultimately be around the 90Kg mark again. Slowly slowly catchee monkey.

Indeed... I think once I realised this, it just became so much easier. It has thus evolved from a battle-with-the-bulge-quick-results-self-war to a more of a long-term clean-burning-fueled approach. Also, I drank water instead of between meal snacking, and this I think was key to me breaking the comfort-snacking habit. I now drink a lot of water and also a LOT of black coffee... I have always been a heavy coffee drinker.

I am fortunate ... I did the gradual withdrawal and thus was spared the really negative side-effects. I find now that my energy levels are fine, but as soon as I have some pasta or such, I almost immediately feel fatigued and bloated, thus it is just not worth the short-lived gastronomic temptation.

I have been trying "LifeGain" capsule thingies as a supplement for the past couple of months and these seems OK. I do not seem to be suffering from any deficiencies that I am aware of...

Happy with the turnout. It's different but definitely an excellent substitute, leaving similar satisfaction as bread.

I used golden flaxseed and brown linseed. Olive oil. Olives and feta cheese.

Flax and linseed are still both around 30℅ carbs, so if you have a carb intake goal, bear that in mind...
