Weight Loss Thread 2014

For about a month i've gone without any sugar at all.

Next month i'll try to do the same with salt.

Only downside is I don't drink any coffee anymore as I couldn't without any sugar. Perhaps its better this way.
I've maybe drank one cup the entire month.

Currently i'm at 110 and my mission for the next month is to wake up an hour earlier and ride bicycle for 40 - 50 minutes everyday.

Sugarless, saltless diet + exercise worked great for me in the past.
I will have to wait till feb to get my bicycle sorted out first. Its been in storage for about 6 years. that is why i'm 110 and not 80.

I would be extremely cautious about removing salt from your diet

What is the best way to lose belly fat? I don't drink/ smoke and I'm a vegetarian.

I started going to Virgin Active last week and right now I'm mainly focusing on Cardio exercises. I just want to get my general fitness up to scratch. ( 20 minute treadmill, 20 cycling and 10 minute rowing) that's all I can muster right now.

You cannot target specific fat. You probably have the same problem as Shaun whose also a vegetarian

As a vegetarian, do you find yourself eating more carbs? Shaun and I blame that for our weight gain.

I realise that, that's why I'm focusing on Cardio. Should help remove fat in general.

Yep, I eat way too much carbs. Almost everything has to have a potatoe

I think you've got a mental block going by convincing yourself that Woolies is better or you don't know how to pick FnV.

I know how to pick them just fine thank you. I prefer not having wilted lettuce after 2 days in the refridgerator and fruit with no taste. To each their own. ;)

yep, but I used to have it under control when I was active. ( used to play tennis, soccer and cricket weekly). Since then, I've become a slouch.

Nope it's got nothing to do with you being a slouch, you've probably developed insulin resistance over the years and are now suffering the consequences.

Gary Taubes makes a good argument that becoming a slouch is an effect of getting fat because your body is channeling your energy into fat storage, which leaves less energy for being active.

Will check it out, personally I'm a bit weary about the bullet proof exec. His main agenda is to drive sales of his own products.

I thought that at first as well, but after listening to a lot of his podcasts I have changed my tune. I'll be sure to report back on what I think of his products :D

add me in aswell.

current weight: 76 kg
goal: 71 kg and lose the belly fat
body fat: 17.6
age: 26

Same goal, I really just want to get rid of my belly fat....don't wanna look like a government official :D

I have been trying to look up what would be the best exercise routines that target the belly. I have just been doing cardio exercises. Been watching what I have been chowing.

Same here. I've become self conscious of what I eat and how much I eat. Also just doing Cardio atm. The moment I can jog 10/15minutes continuously, I'll be happy and move onto targeting my belly fat.

I'll say this again, you cannot target a specific area of fat like you do muscle with exercise, sort out your nutrition and the body will do the rest.

There really isn't any physical activity you can do to target belly fat. The best thing you can do is to improve your health and be very patient as it's often the last fat to go...

You might find some interesting stuff on Lyle McDonald's site. I have a copy of http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/the-stubborn-fat-solution lying around that I have not read yet. If you remind me I'll check it out this week and let you know if it's worth reading.
