Weight Loss Thread 2014

For real, definitely.

From what I've read, it's to be expected, just hit me today though.

yep, not uncommon, I went back onto full blown LCHF on Monday and felt a tad woozy yesterday afternoon, but by last night I was fine

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is it safe to go in and out of LCHF mode? Is there a minimum time where one should stay in or out?

10 to 14 days is what you usually need to adjust your body to burn fat rather than sugar. From that point on the opinions differ. I personally take one day every week to re-feed on carbs. I experienced much better fat loss, and managed to put on muscle that way.

The other issue that is big for me is that it seems you need carbohydrate to form mucus which is needed for the lining of your gut. Some people develop food sensitives avoiding carbohydrate for months because they destroy their gut lining.

What's bugging me is some people seem to be prone to increased ldl cholesterol when increasing saturated fats and I think I might be one of them. I’ve read when this happens the chances of having oxidised ldl then also goes up.

I see, so something like 5 days low-carb and then 5 days normal eating would be silly.

Regarding this mucus problem, is this from complete carb avoidance? You can still have some carbs as part of LCHF right, is the amount allowed not enough for the mucous lining? Is it even possible to avoid carbs 100% completely?

A high carb diet will increase your triglycerides and make your ldl cholesterol small & dense. This is the ldl that is truly damaging.

Saturated fat may increase your ldl slightly, but it makes the ldl larger and fluffy. This ldl causes no damage. Sat fat will also increases your hdl at the same time.

I highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Cholesterol-Myth-Jonny-Bowden/dp/1592335217

A 5 day switch would make it too hard to transition from sugar to fat to sugar to fat... One day high carb is better. I am back in ketosis on the second day after a high carb day. The mucus problem was on ultra low carb. You could probably avoid it with a higher carb intake. On my high carb days I eat starch because there are benefits to spiking insulin once a week, among them is that it "resets" your leptin levels that fall on a low carb diet. And if you want to put on muscle the "anabolic" effects of insulin are needed. (Work out before the carb refeed)

jokes is one thing but being mean is another thing altogether. I suppose this is the trend on this forum lately.

who's being mean? let me at them and I'll sort them out  :p

this thread is supposed to be about supporting one another. not 'my science is better than your science'. our bodies are different and although we have some similarities in our approaches to cutting our weight we can still have unique solutions. and input should be accepted like that.

I don't care who said what or who was right/wrong. the thing with DM earlier shouldn't have happened.

If you can't take the heat in the kitchen...

im sorry but that's BS. im here to get input from everyone, not just those that declare themselves 'experts' and crap on anybody else who dares have a different idea

Some of us lead busy lives while we are trying to help others in this thread, and sometimes we bite people's heads off. It can be very frustrating watching people going down a path that ultimately leads to failure. It can also get down right heated in this thread, but we always make up in the end. If this does not appeal to you I highly suggest you start another thread and state that politeness, political correctness, and being lovey dovey are more important than science.
