Weight Loss Thread 2014

I have not been getting enough green stuff in, so yesterday, I had a salad (redpepper, lettuce, tomato, baby marrow) with mutton chunks fried in coconut oil. Other than that, I've been eating cloudbread with cheese and drinking coffee with coconut oil mostly.

The previous day it was eggs and peppers, iirc.

I did some exercise over the last two days as well, I think I may have jumped into that a bit quickly perhaps.

hmmm, ideally you still want to aim for balanced eating, I still do 3 meals a day with my main focus on breakfast and supper, lunch is generally more of a snack, on the face of it you may be throwing your system out of whack with the cloud bread and coffee depending on quantities of each you're consuming?

Not to much of either, perhaps 2 cups a day? I don't normally drink coffee, so this may be doing a number on me as well.

My appetite has dropped dramatically, I actually had to force myself to eat last night, and as of right now, I have no interest in food at all.

I did notice that I started feeling a bit **** as my appetite decreased, which makes sense, I think, if I'm in the crossover period where my body is figuring our how to extract energy from the fats and proteins.

I'll give it a couple of days, see how it goes.

Gosh man, don't friggen exercise! You will burn out your glycogen stores and will feel AWFUL doing that unless you are fully keto-adapted. You also don't want to go and shock your adrenals while you are already stressing your body out with a massive metabolism shift. Also, drink more water than you normally do, and I would also increase your salt intake. ONLY himalayan pink salt, or a sea salt that is grey. NOT PURIFIED TABLE SALT!

I have been drinking a HUGE amount of water, and it seems to get stuck inside of me somewhere.

Yeah, exercise was a very bad idea, I'm thinking, hehe.

Only use Himalayan pink salt.

In the last challenge I dropped from 17% bodyfat to 12% bodyfat with 20 minutes of weight lifting once a week. NO CARDIO!

Absolutely increase your salt. Do some googling on ketogenic diet & salt. Sorry I am in a massive rush to reply, but it looks like this article has some bits on salt. Sorry I have not read it all so I cant vouch 100% for it. http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/saturated-fat/tips-tricks-for-starting-or-restarting-low-carb-pt-ii/

I don't think you are getting in nearly enough protein. All I'm seeing is a lot of fats. You still need protein.

I've been eating a lot of egg and cheese, doesn't that contain a lot of protein?

I kind of dived into this headfirst, still learning what's good and what's not, etc.

That is another argument in itself! Most people eat far too much protein. In the last challenge I ate 78% fat, 2% carbohydrate, and 20% protein. (Carbs are actually higher because those percentages don't include the carbs I ate once a week during my refeed)

Hell I won't be able to survive on that little protein. About half my calories comes form protein. Dropping a kg a week of fat, tacking on lean mass and strength even increasing in gym. Low protein does not work for me personally.

I agree, you still need to eat the leafy things, lots of green salad with olives and cheese doused with olive oil and a dash of lemon juice does it for me.

I been tracking my intake on myfitnesspal.com and notice I need to cut out the milk from my coffee... 4-6 cups a day is a few extra carbs from milk lactose sugar I don't need....

I'm high protein, higher fat and lower carbs..... probably 40/40/20 or 50/40/10... not 100% sure at the moment.

Eating mostly almonds/avo and eggs, chicken, fish ... an apple here and there and some low gi rye or sweet potato.

Dont forget to drink your water, hydration is key..... done my morning 2l.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm very similar.

I'm not following, what do you mean googoo?

Just talking about the normal sort of dark chocolate, had a lot of sugar in. Never ended up checking the 90% :D
But its addictive anyway. I don't need it in my life.

So what eating plan are we adopting here? Heard Tim Noakes on 702 the other day discussing his new book, The Real Meal Revolution. Low carb, no sugar, high fat, high protein diet!! Fly's in the face of conventional dieting practices (the high fat part) but seems a sustainable lifestyle.

Sent the SO to buy the book but it's sold out everywhere since the show. Got us down on a few waiting lists! I need to drop 20kg's this year and I suspect this may be my best opportunity...

It's getting reprinted at the end of the month, will be available early Feb - This is essentially the route I am following.

welcome sand_man

there's many approaches being used in the thread, paleo, LCHF, Banting (the Tim Noakes approach) plus others who are just doing their own thing. Where possible some of us bust myths around weight loss (or fat loss as I prefer to call it), there's lots of knowledge around the real science of nutrition and when possible we can answer questions, provide advice and all round general support.

our OP seems to have gone AWOL again, but you can send him your stats and goal via PM anyway
