Weight

Ignore all 'breakthrough' sounding diet advice, there have been no breakthroughs in the field of nutrition in recent history.
None at all.
Weight = caloric intake - caloric utilisation.
It is that simple.
Ergo: Your plan should work.

I also prefer to be full metric. 5ft 2" = ~157cm. My 168cm = 5ft 6".

My 85kg also puts my BMI in the same ~30 range as Saffers'.

In the same vein as the Ft/inches thing, I prefer working in Kilojoules (kJ) instead of calories. Probably because every box I check show the energy content in kJs.

Interesting little number: 32,284 KiloJoules is 1kG of fat. (Or 7716 Calories).

To lose 5kg in 8 weeks means you need to get rid of about 2882 kJ a day.
To lose 10kg in 8 weeks means you need to get rid of about 5765 kJ a day.

Can't recall the exact number, but even if I'm inactive, my body consumes about 9000 Kilojoules a day. If I can stick to that, and just exercise a bit, I should be able to drop some kgs as well.

Sugar is about 20 calories per teaspoon, that's 84kJ. So if you drink coffee/tea with sugar, those two sugars many people drink already accounts for 168kJ per cup!

200 Cups of coffee = 1kG of fat. That's 3 1/2 cups a day every day for 8 weeks.

Cutting out your coffee sugar alone can drop 1kg in 8 weeks!

BMI is bull***** imo. It says om on the edge of being obese (BMI = 29.2 H= 1.85m W= 99kg)..... I wear 34-36 Levi jeans. So I think that is ruled out....

If you have some spare cash go and see a dietician and follow the advice given.

Just get the name of a good Dietician, ours were a total waste of money. Weigh less showed me more.

But i agree with Devil My BMI shows i'm normal to low but according to my total body fat i have to lose loads. BMI is very general.

BMI is just a basic rule-of-thumb, but gives a point to work from.

It is silly, outdated and really not a good indicator.

Go join at virgin active or any number of gyms and they take body fat, build, age, gender and a number of things in to account and then help you follow an exersize plan. Also most gyms have a dietician who will help you work out a eating plan with your gym schedule and workout.

What about brown disguised as white or however that ad goes

Do you have a dependable way to calculate your actual body mass for the guy/girl on the street?

If you weight your body, you're getting your body weight, not neccesarily the actual mass, so it might as well be put in there...

BMI is called body mass index?:O ..... weight is in newtons mass in Kg, heh just a point I wanted to make..!

Me = 715.4 Newtons

Whitebread doesn't really taste that good after you've eaten whole wheat or brown or rye. You just need an open mind.

If you want to lose weight quick then NB - You shouldn't eat any bread except low GI seedload or rye bread and then don't eat any bread after lunch and no carbs AT ALL after 2/3pm. After that only veggies with your lean meat. Broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, baby marrow, brussel sprouts, spinach. NO potato at night or other starch. Fruit at night is also a no no because it will spike your blood sugar causing lots of insulin to inhibit your fat burning hormone HSL. Any sugar at night can reverse the weight loss from earlier in the day.

Exercise is only 20-25% of the equation. You are what you eat. You can gym 5 times a week and stay fat if your diet is wrong. 10 kgs in 8 weeks is not possible unless you follow a hardcore eating plan with 5-6 small meals a day. Its better to set a realistic goal than one you have only a small chance of achieving. Its too easy to give up and quit then.

BMI is a good guideline for women (useless for men who often carry lots of muscle) but going by how you look in the mirror is much more important than the scale.

Most Wholewheat low GI is not really low GI. It is borderline what they can get away with calling low GI purely for marketing purposes. Try and cut out all cheese and mayo except for ONE off day. Mayo is 50% fat. Cheese is around 33% fat! Low fat or fat free Cottage cheese is a very healthy substitute and is high in protein. For meat stick to chicken breasts, LEAN ham, ostrich fillet, tuna and lean cuts of steak if you can afford it in this day and age lol.
