weird gmail issue... help please

hey guys

got a sony ericsson P1i, and on mtn contract.... (loving the phone)

heres the issue...

all my internet stuff is working, like IM+, like surfing the net, email thru gmail imap.. all great

but

occasionally when checking my gmail thru imap, i get errors saying, cant get mail coz your server settings are incorrect (or something similar), and then sometimes it works.....????

so i reckon i just download the gmail java app and use that....
gmail.com/app

finds the site no problem, goes thru the install process, like where you want to save it, you happy its untrusted app etc, then as you hit go it says.... network failure.

???? this has been happening for a couple weeks now, ive uninstalled my gprs settings , reinstalled them, moved from tower to tower.... any ideas?

you checked on gmail website for QA's?
I also had problem (unrelated to yours) with gmail & pop mail - found it quite usefull as it pointed me in the right direction, despite not having the exact answer.

seriously tho is there any way for me to run some tests or do SOMETHING, got to get this working ..... mtndatadude???

anyone know of a seperate download version of this gmail data app? other than the official download and install route??

I use gmail daily and it hasn't been down at all.

same here... so i got something dodgy on my data connection then... all other data transfer is perfect... just this gmail app download bombs

FIXED !!!!!

i was letting the phone collect its data settings OTA from sony ericsson (never been a problem before) but for some reason it was switching on the proxy server setting... turned it off and it worked
