So this issue has been coming a long way now, the one with my hard drive freezing.

So this is what I have figured out so far.

I have 2 hard drive enclosures, for all the tests I've done, I didn't even close them up (to rule out over heating).

Enclosure A & Enclosure B. Both is SATA.

With that I have two hard drives as well, a 1500G Seagate and a 500G Samsung. Both is SATA.

Both hard drives works perfectly in Enclosure A for hours on end, but the issue is with Enclosure B.

The Seagate shows no issue with Enclosure B, even a other 400G Seagate works 100% in Enclosure B. It is just the Samsung one that doesn't want to work in Enclosure B. It works for maybe 5-10m, but then just stops/freezes. If I take the HDD out and put it in Enclosure A, it works perfectley.

What is the issue with this Samsung and Enclosure B.

Could I suggest you try the last suggestion in this thread, http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-244277_14_0.html

A google search reveals the problem is pretty common with this drive & some SATA controllers. Looks like the drive has to be forced to 1.5 Gb/s.

Google for more related links.

You might want to connect the drive to your internal sata ports for this procedure.

Thanks for all your effort, will have a look at this! Thank you! Much appreciated! :)

Yep, forcing the drive to 1.5Gb/s should work, although the transfer speeds are reduced on the SATA connection. If you're using USB connection for the external enclosure, this won't be an issue.

Moral of the story is?

Samsung hard drives are ****

There is a good reason why they are so much cheaper...
