Welcome the Newbie, well yesterday I acquired myself a Macbook (late 2008 model).

I will be visiting this part of the forum for a few hints and tips. Most likely more in panic than anything else seen as this is new territory for me.

Chat more laters.

Don't Panic!

Douglas Adams typed that exact phrase for the first time 350 years ago on a Mac. It was because he had a Mac. So please, welcome but don't panic. Those days are over.

lol , thx chaps, found the previous owner had a windows partition where he ran xp to play a bit of dota, which is perfect for me.

Then I couldn't remember how I booted into xp to go in there again to see, found it, will be installing the Win 7 RC1 on that partition for now - my 1st run - will do that this evening.

Now all I need to do is to get me some nice accessories to go along with it.

Starting with a proper "case, cover or bag" whichever one is best.

How does the e272 work on this baby ?

Fortunately

Another question - what do you use your mac for ?

My normal windows based pc - I just used for playing games , email and IM. Dont take work home that often so can't even mention that.

Music, Movies, Work, Skype, Internet. Everything 'cept for gaming.

Layout, design, programming, email, internet, everything. I haven't used a PC or 'doze since Win 95. Not a big gamer myself, seeing as I get laid quite often :)

E272 should work just fine.

Greg

Just an idea . . . but why not try windows in a virtual environment before sacrificing hdd space. You can resize and create partitions anyway so if you need it later . . . :)

I've just installed W7 on Sun's VirtualBox and it works pretty well.

Me thinks me needs to clarify a bit more on that.

The uses and the relevant application that enables that.

It sort of helps me to know what programs/applications to look out for , should I need to do something specific.

Me will be updating to 10.5.7 this evening as soon as I get back home.

Hey Bwana, using the space specifically to play some Dota on the go.

my 8710w is tooo big a monster to be lugging around.

Best source for accessories - in terms of prices and availibility and largest selection

Fair enough then :)

Accessories . . . dunno really. I just use whatever I can find that doesnt look like a laptop bag. I do the same thing with my cameras too. :)

You can't use voice or video on IM for mac for some reason.:(
But you can on Skype for mac.

How long is a piece of string?

I use QuarkXpress, Adobe CS2 and CS3 for design/layout/etc
I use BBEdit for website and other development. It sure isn't the only tool though but I have used it since ver 2 in 1995 so I am quite addicted to it.
I use iWork over Office anyday (cos it aint Micro$oft)

But really, it all depends on what you wanna do. Check out MacUpdate.com for a good list of MOST mac software. And if you do want to rip DVDs for backup purposes, research all options first...
