What can you do with a ridiculously tiny 40MB data bundle?

MTN 40MB

It works very well, and never have any issues. (Vodacom reception better though) :D

40mb is not enough though! Even if you only use it every now and then to access webmail and web based control panels. The only reason I took it was because I wasn't prepared to fork out R1800 for the modem in one shot.

I use my home adsl primarily, but I cant seem to keep my usage of the MTN modem below 90mb. (Extra R100pm) :o

You Cant even Download a epsiode of Bleach from Bleach Portal with a 40mb cap!!!

Yeah, u can use the 40MB to download Windows updates every month, so you can BE SURE that you don't download any Viruses, when browsing with the remaining 3-4 Megs!

A Company that sells this and calls it broadband, IS A JOKE TO EVERYONE!

This has already been put to the ASA and IIRC, the ASA ruled in iBursts favour.

However, having said that it does not make it right. There are a lot of "uneducated broadband subscribers" out there who will be easily duped into believing the hype of the advertising not realising the implications in terms of cost thereafter, especially now that iBurst have made it mandatory for the client to choose whether to opt OUT of the out of bundle costs and rather be softcapped when signing up.

This is another clear indication of the ethics of this company. They have none.

In all honesty, if you load up 1 heavily loaded facebook profile (damn kids who have so many appz) and refresh say... 10x, that's 40mb gone!

My aunt's step daughter got a bill from MTN for R5800 in december.. all she did was facebook facebook.. maybe some mp3s.. Dunno what package she was on though, but i think its quite sad.

I think they're in cahoots with Microsoft. When I switched on my Mac yesterday, Microsoft Office told me it had a 50 MB upgrade to install. Fortunately, I use a real broadband provider (not one of the 40 MB crooks), so it was done and installed within half an hour, and my bill hasn't gone up.

if It is iBurst, then that is crazy. But for Vodacom I can understand. The low usage options are obviously not for 3G or laptop or desktop computer use. But they are just fine for cellphone users. Without the 20Mb or 40Mb bolt-on contract I would have to pay DOUBLE for per Mb billing.

so whoever wrote this article is missing the point. The 20Mb contracts are not there for his desktop use, they are for cellphone users.

...and by the way, nobody is forcing him to use a 20Mb bundle. he can safely ignore it and go on his happy way.

It is a disgrace and just another example of big companys getting fat off of unsuspecting consumers, in fact it makes me want to... I just wish that everyone would do a little reasearch and shopping arround first.

40MB x 12 = 480MB/year *spit* @ "entry level" scam

As i have posted before on this topic, my old man as the R40 deal with vodacom, it works out fine for him. All he does is check his mail every now and then.

Its all relative. Give a starving beggar R40 and watch how he will stretch that, for me, R40 is not even enough for lunch. Same applies to data usage.

hey! you are copying gdiza on your location!

that's plagiarism, i'm telling!

Just one thing - first install the firewall THEN connect the internet. It seems every single app wants to connect to the intenet these days.

BOFH trick #59837 : If a luser keeps pestering you regarding which ISP to choose, tell him the R49 iBurps deal is a real steal... :D

Ok, I can let the cat out of the bag now that they've changed the pricing structure. The way they used to price their pakages, you paid a lot less for the modem on the lower packages than on the higher ones. (They've now changed that) Also, it worked out cheaper to subscribe to the 40 MB package and buy a 1 GB bandwith booster every month than subscribe to the 1 GB package they had at that time, about a R100 less! I'm thinking they didn't think this through properly, hehe. Now they've obviously woken up and changed the packages it is cheaper to subscribe to the higher packages than buy bandwidth booster. Thus, I have now upgraded to the 3 GB package (without paying a migration fee!).

pffft still think it's a rip-off rather have slower speed and uncapped that get 4Mb's and blaze through 3GB's in 2 days.
