My insurance company said that if I don't install tracker in my car then if my car is stolen or hijacked then I will have to pay 7.5% of car value over and above the R4000 excess.
Is this like a standard thing? They say they will cover install cost. But I will have to pay the monthly fee of R110pm over and above my insurance premium.
Yeah. If I take tracker premium might be lower. But then have to pay for tracker. I am more concerned about the 7.5% extra excess.Ey? News to me. Surely your premium is based on certain risk factors and not having a tracker would be taken into account when calculating that premium?

Phone each tracking company and ask them if they have any specials for your insurance company. I phoned Beam-e and I'll only be paying R59 per month

Disagree . Germans are far superior !Get a Lexus!!! A must have!
Yeah that's pretty standard. I prefer a 3G GPS car tracker though, because I've got access to my car's precise location and even travel history any time. The cheaper radio-powered systems can only be triangulated during an actual recovery operation. Something to bear in mind: for me it's worth it because my wife drives my car too and I want to be able to help her if she ever gets stranded or worse.
Thanks. Do you have a link to that post?Just putting it out there, but if you go with Discovery Insure you get their tracking unit (powered by C-Track) for freeTheir net premium might be higher than what you're currently paying, but when I factored in the savings for Tracker (I'd been paying for Skytrax personally) and also the hefty cash-back payment I get each month for good driving (R400/month generally), it was cheaper even than Outsurance. Just putting it out there (if you want more info I published a detailed review on here of the service).

Thanks guys. Going to do some research. See what my options are. Also want to get an extended motor plan.Yeah that's pretty standard. Yup, how about if the car gets hijacked and every second counts? Do you want to wait for the tracking service to get helicopters into the air, or just be able to request the car's location yourself and give that to authorities immediately? Food for thought, definitely. Plus it often gives me peace of mind when I park my car in a 'dodgy' area, and you can request the location by smsIf she gets stranded, she could send you her location with her phone. Also, you're able to triangulate her phone via Google. But worse case she doesn't have her phone then I do see your point.

Man, so today I just saw this car. Lower mileage & cheaper. Only thing I can tell it doesn't have day time driving LED lights.
