I would like to suggest expanding the uncapped local bandwidth idea to include not counting local bandwidth towards our bandwidth usage, as per my post in the "Jurisdiction of Cap" thread....

Since my days of using ADSL I have always thought that we should be encouraged to use local bandwidth, not only AFTER reaching the cap, but BEFORE as well.

By NOT including local bandwidth in the count of our bandwidth usage, WBS and Telkom would be encouraging us to use local bandwidth from day one.

Everyone would benefit from this strategy as we would take longer to reach our cap when using more local bandwidth, WBS and Telkom would save on expensive international bandwidth and the local internet would get a boost.

To summarise: only international bandwidth should count towards our bandwidth usage and once the cap is reached only international bandwidth should be throttled.

yeah um.... its not gonna happen, as shaun said the cap is here to stay, if they did uncap local it wouldn't be for free on the standard account, that is a certainty, it would be introduced as a new package with increased cost
 
I would like all this...its nothing much to give Local is uncapped on ADSL..why is it not on our's i mean its uunet they have perfect access to local stuff :mad:

We could then use something like NukeCap :D

But then again...iburst is R599 while UUNET uncapped adsl is R1200 permonth line + isp account

Anyways helpdesk is up but bandwidth usage is down... :rolleyes:
 
you want to know why? ok heres why, telkom own part of sat3 and safe lines, so they dont need to pay any other party profits for thier bandwith, they just need to pay thier part of the line, thats why to telkom local and international costs different amounts.

WBS buys from UUnet who also own a part of those lines, so WBS has to go pay UUNETS price of bandwith with the markup and it costs the same for local and international, so to WBS there is no difference, they dont care if you moved that 1GB to your neighbour or an eskimo, it still costs them the same amount.

I hate when new iburst people come on the network and start asking for more stuff than they get, would it be nice? yes of course but is it going to happen? i doubt it very much, as they say you get what you pay for and we dont pay for uncapped local usage. So to end off I will type the following in caps

IF YOU WANT UNCAPPED LOCAL GO GET ADSL
 
yeah yeah as I have said before I want/ned a way to get back to uncapped, so if its an uncapped local package and I have to go get nukecap, then so be it, but all these people who like to paint WBS as the big bad corperation trying to steal from them... i just dont see it like that, we dont pay for uncapped and so we wont get it
 
and by the way there are people at WBS trying to fight for uncapped local too, I heard Shaun Green was one of them, so I really dont see why we need to sign petitions and organise a march and go on hunger strikes, if they say no uncapped then the only way to fight it is to go sign up with a different service and make sure they dont get your cash.
 
oh they can do it, but at what price and I think if you saw the price you would flip out and call WBS thiefs
 
I dont think it is a bad idea to ask WBS what you want to. I would be interested to know frmo WBS what prevents them to give us uncapped local traffic... But I think in all honesty being capped to 64K is a great deal considering ADSL guys get cut straight out of international bandwidth.

But lets see. I personally think it's way to early in the game to make any petitions against WBS. I think they will first want to see how many people come onboard and after a year adjust their product offerings and benefits based on consumer feedback.
 
Well they have been up for 6 Months, if theres anytime to petition them its now, while they're still young and flexible. I just dont think it would do anything after watching people doing the same thing with the 'Buy extra GBs" thing. WBS did listen but charge 159 a pop which is just crazy, so I think people keep asking about local uncapped because they assume its like ADSL and they can get local uncapped for no extra cost, but to WBS it isn't the same thing at all. So why waste our time asking for local uncapped when we'll be charged for it (and have to buy a service like nukecap on top of it too) when we could just pay for uncapped usage period, local and international.

Because at the end of the day WBS pays as much for local as they do for international bandwith, so if its gonna cost the exact same amount, why not just ask for an uncapped international package.
 
How's this for a polling option 'cutting to the heart of things' type question ( #1 ) Just to get a sense of precisely where peoples thinking is on this issue..

As a customer of IBurst, which of the following most accurately reflects your feelings, plans and attitudes about IBurst as a company and 'your' curent ISP.

1. - I trust them and I will most likely stick with them throughout this initial starting period, despite occasional problems.
2. - I don't trust them but I will most likely stick with them throughout this initial starting period with occasional problems.
3. - I am with them for now, but as soon as a better option appears on the market I will switch to the ISP with better options for me.
4. - I am reasonably satisfied with their service, but as soon as a better option appears on the market, I probably will switch immediately.
5. - I am quite happy with their service, but as soon as a better option appears on the market I will switch immediately.
6. I am unhappy with their service and as soon as a better option appears on the market, its likely that I will switch to the ISP with better options.
7. I am happy with their service and its unlikely that I will switch to another service, even if it appears to be a better option.

it doesn't, all votes are marked with the user ID, once your user ID is used thats it, you cannot vote again
 
i figured some of those similar sounding questions above, could provide some useful data - not just for help/support info - for instance if IBurst discover that a large portion of their customer-base doesn't trust them, and is ready and waiting to walk away from them, the instant there's a better option - this might show IBurst that being a lot more flexible in their package offerings, and developing a willingness to listen and provide what their customers want, might make better business/financial sense.

To a company that survives by having its customers on a 30 day contract, discovering that X% of those customers are just waiting to leave - that might change their current slightly patronising attitude. (As in 'these are our packages, take it or leave it')

A service that's supposedly customer-driven, needs some wakeup slaps as to whose actually providing them with their money..

how about adding:

Unused bandwidth gets added to the next month.

This will surely be huge competition against standard ADSL practices. Which is beneficial to WBS customers and WBS image... and seriously I dont think this would cost them anything extra.
