Hi guys.

I am nearly out of my 18KG bag of Science plan.....

I have a pedigree German Shepherd Dog - and as much as I love her - I am starting to feel a little bit ripped off by the vet's adamant advice that I must feed the dog Science Plan - at only R600 a bag....

IS there really a significant difference in the quality of the various dog food brands? - Is it worth the cost for Science Plan - Royal Canin or equivalent?

So with the important questions done - what do you feed your dogs? - any problems? - any advice? -

I'm in the Ranburg area....

Thanks

I feed my dogs just a few pellets with rice and either mince or chicken. The pellets work out fairly cheap when you don't have to pour out a few bowls twice a day...

Chicken and Rice ... The vets are Bull ****ting you, they just wanna make more money. Have had 5 dogs and all have lived past 13

Ultra Dog. With some added meat and sometimes left overs.

Much cheaper than Hill's, Eukanuba etc. and our little monster has been healthy since day 1. No problems

Pedigree dogs, we feed them cooked rice with some dog food.

Works perfectly, our sharpei is about 9 years old and fit as a horse (they usually live to about 8).

Each get a tin of huskey, the big dog gets a big one :p with some balls and oxtail soup :D. Fridays are bone days. The excitement is off the chart on a friday afternoon. You can tell bone day is coming thursday already hahaha

I don't get the whole "i only feed my dog vet food no Pick & Pay junk"
YOU eat food from Pick & Pay!! Its not like you buy your food at the Doctor's office!

My dogs eat Montego mostly, purina whatever's on sale dammit and lekka leftovers... they are healthy and happy. Why spend more money on dog food than you spend on HUMAN food??

Samp and meat stew cooked overnight in the slow cooker mixed with pellets. The "meat" usually consists of chicken necks/gizzards/livers or leftovers.

You should see my gf on bone day...

My sisters a VET and she's told me there is a vast difference in the quality of the foods, but that being said she also said that there food is way "better" than what we eat, its more scientifically produced than what we eat :)

She has told many people to stay away from Montego, but so many people still feed there dogs the stuff and they are still healthy. The Montego factory churns out tons of the food each day!

used to feed my dog just the homebrands and on braai days she got all the bones. she lived till over 16 years never been sick. The times i took her to the vet the vet commended on how healthy she was.

Why is Montego bad? Cause i have no problem moving to the next thing as long as its not "VET"(rip-off) prices

i'm very glad to see the general concencus is that it is not worth it :)

She is 5 months old now - little german shepherd bitch -

Liver, sometimes left-overs and chunks, interesting the only chunks he eats is Purina
