What do you use Tasker for?

Given this a bump.

Tasker was the best investment I made for my phone. Currently have the follow running

*Phone will go onto mute when I head into a meeting. Unmute when meeting complete
*Send the better half a sms when battery level is below 5% letting her know my battery might die soon
*Every weekday morning at a certain time it will switch my pc on for me
*When I plug in a headset with Mic (my default headset) in will set audio to certain level
*When I plug in a headset with no Mic (normal audio cable plugged into my car) it will carrying on playing my latest playlist
*Certain games the screen will not time out for 10 min
*Every weekend morning at a certain time 5fm will start playing via tunein
*Every weekend morning at a certain time 5fm will stop playing via tunein

Next thing I want to do it start switching on and off my wifi depending on location, and a load of other things.

How does it know you're in a meeting? Calendar event?

Yup. So pretty much scans my calender, and at start of meeting time it will will mute. Once complete, then back to as it was before. If I leave before meeting is complete, I can just increase volume and won't mute again till next meeting.

Can it differentiate between different types of calendar entries?

I must thank you guys, I just downloaded Tasker last night after reading this thread and its an amazing app! i am not where near your levels but i've setup that when i get into the range of the cell towers at home my wifi turns on, also if I am connected to my home wifi my lock screen turns off... but thats a bit ify, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. and now my productivity today at work is screwed... looking for more cool tasker profiles

Lock screen enable/disable based on wifi state/location sounds interesting. Need to look into that...

Edit: tried it now with Llama, also seems a bit "ify" :-/

How much is Tasker? after reading this thread, I might consider it :D

After reading this thread (small derail) I'm considering getting a small android tablet just for home/ messing around with- any recommendations? I do have a samsung smart TV and I see loot has the galaxy note 8 for R4000.

get a nexus 7
2012 models go for cheap
sold mine for R1700 iirc

40 odd buckaroos. I am sticking to Llama until Tasker goes on sale again /yea I'm cheap like that :p

yeah, will add to my watchlist ;) also wait for a special :D

Ha ha, fair enough. I looked at it this way. A cover for my phone was more then tasker, but I get a whole lot more out of tasker then I do out of my cover...

Instead of having a take away meal (if you into that kind of thing) rather make yourself a toasted sami and boom, saved enough to buy the app :)

One thing I'm trying to do now is to play a certain tone when I get an alert from an app I'm using. The app itself doesn't offer it.

Any ideas?

Edit: OK, I think I got it. Just going to have to wait till tonight and see what happens xD

I use tasker for the following:
When Gear connects, says 'smartwatch connected'. When gear disconnects, bluetooth turns off
When at work between 07:00 and 07:30, phone is set to vibrate only - for morning meeting
Headset plugged in. Set volume to max and launch music player
Auto rotate on - activates when certain app launch (chrome, Calc email)
Sleep mode for night, when plugged in and after 22:00. Has emergency number function, so turns off silent if someone calls twice or someone from favourites.
Wi-Fi on when arrive at home.

Thats about it for now but having some issues. Nothing too hectic yet, still experimenting
If i use the location based contexts it drains my battery like crazy. Is there anyway to 'help' this problem

for the location based stuff rather use cell towers you connected to instead of using GPS location. With GPS is has to constantly stay connected to get your location to apply or not apply rules with the cell towers your GSM radio is automatically connected so GPS doesnt come into it.

Yeah, the cell towers option is the best. No battery drain from that one, I found...

I thought I was only using the cell tower option.
In location context I Un - highlighted GPS. Is that right, cause note was only getting 14 hrs on a charge. Then when I turned off my 2 location based profiles im getting 24hrs minimum
