What do your pay your gardener?

R2k per month plus breakfast and lunch.

Comes in 2 and a half days a week, normally 8 to 4. Saturdays are 8 to 12 (I have to start hounding him at this time to finish up and go home) but he normally leaves around 2.

Saturdays are mostly just for washing the cars and cleaning the braais.
 
Good grief, but most of you pay a lot. I have had a garden service for about 15 year's now. I have a big corner stand (1500 sqm plus pavements). The service costs me under a grand a month. This includes cutting lawns, edges, pruning bushes and roses, weeding the garden, etc once a week. They use their own equipment and remove all the resulting garden rubble. When i prune trees (we have many) or cut the cycads branches (resulting in a large pile of Cycad cuttings), they take away these cuttings.

Why pay R200 to R300 per DAY for someone to break your equipment, then you still have to make a plan to remove the rubble???

I do it because my gardener hasn't been around for a month, so I had a garden service come in once a week.

The way my garden looks in comparison to what my gardener does is night and day apart. I can also use the gardener for other stuff when required.

Yes, the garden service is more convenient but there simply isn't the same level of care as a dedicated gardener.
 
R150 for cutting grass, forking and weeding the beds, wash 2 cars and other odd jobs every now and again. He is normally finished within 4 to 5 hours.

We used to have a full time gardner in our complex, lazy twat.
We now use a garden service twice a month for same price.
What a massive difference. Those guys work hard non stop and get the job done <--- Joys of a project manager been on site overseeing the crew (he is also the driver)
 
Bare minimum wage now in RSA is 20 bux an hr, i think it goes down to 16 bux an hr for farm workers.
I really think that stinks, it should be more
 
You guys chronically overpaying are part of the problem causing the entitlement culture.

I pay R150, and I'm very lenient allowing for my gardener to go when he considers the work done which is normally at 11-12. If it's a full day work like painting or something that I have asked him to do in the past I'll bump that up to R200.

Only because I have someone good. I won't pay the average guys that sit next to the road more than R100.

No it shouldn't. It should be nothing, because some people just aren't worth R16/h By having a minimum wage at all you are depriving they from legally working.

Do you think the minimum wage should be R100.. then fair enough. But you're still going to end up paying companies who pay their staff less until then. E.g. you can't afford to ensure that everyone who built your house gets paid R100/h.

And to those who pay R100/day... Think about the expenses that need to be covered after transport and living costs. Just a pair of school shoes is R250.
 
R300 per 8 hour day once a week. Can’t believe there are people paying only R150 per day. That’s like 1995 prices.
