I'd like to know what others pay for, get allocated and how they find using it.
Currently:
1) I pay for a 4Mbps line,
2) My router syncs at maximum 3424kbps (downstream) but full 512kbps upstream
3) Bandwidth according to speedtest.net and pingtest.net is average 1.8Mbps downstream and 0.42Mbps upstream
Now for a bit of background.
For almost a year, my routers synced at 4096Kbps (According to my Netgear DGN200, Linksys WAG354G, SMC7409BRA and SMC7904WBRA)
A month ago, my line went physically disconnected and Telkom "restored" it, so it connects and retrains between 2700kbps and 3328kbps at various random times during the day. I got an SMS that the fault was repaired and "cleared".
Well, what to do but reported it again.
My line is now rock-solid stable at the first mentioned values above.
I notice that the Texas Instruments DSLAM had been replaced with Infineon gear.
However, I have a suspicion that this will be its henceforth operational state. A less than optimal downstream bandwidth and traffic allocation, with a constant upstream provision.
Since I know that I have enjoyed a full 4Mbps line quality before, and now find the downstream values to constantly fluctuate (well stable a full 24 hours now at 3424Kbps), I come to the conclusion that Telkom actively sabotages accounts by throttling and applying "fault" conditions on their gear.
What do you guys out there, get?
Hoping I am wrong.. but those girls, Hope, Faith and Charity... I don't think work at Telkom...
