I have a Netgear DG834 modem-router and although the router syncs fine (and has perfect attenuation/SNR) it is not able to connect - only gets as far as "Initialize LCP".

I logged a call with Telkom and I have no connectivity since Friday afternoon (Broadacres / Fourways) - really frustrates me as Telkom is completely incapable of fixing it.

It is not an issue on my side as the router syncs and I can make phone-calls. The DSL call-centre is useless, since their technicians working on skeleton-staff over the weekend.

I am getting the same thing once or twice a day. It stays off for 5 to 10 minutes and then magically reconnects.

I have had my port refreshed by Telkom but it did not help.

It is frustrating as my wife and myself both play online games. I will pay money to have this fixed.

I am having the same problem. Everything worked fine until yesterday morning. Does this mean the only way to fix this is to log a call with Telkom. What must I tell them is the problem ?

Can you post your router settings as i have the same model but have not had this error for a long time. I am in the KwaDukuza Area in KZN.

I know i once caused the internet to freeze and had a TK tech change a VPi settings :P.

Lets see your settings (yes i see Mr Swan has used another router).

The problem is with the ADSL settings. Multiplexing Method, VPI and VCI. On the netgear router default Settings are Multiplexing method : VC-Based
VPI : 0
VCI : 38

They need to be
Multiplexing method : LLC-Based
VPI : 8
VCI : 35

I had same error and now all working 100%

I'm having the same issue since the 11th August. I've logged an error with Telkom. None of my accounts are able connect

Can you guys try and create a PPPoE account on your computer and "dial-up" to your account?

Your router must be in bridge mode or half-bridge mode.

I would be interested to see if your internet works then.

Incorrect IPCP configuration
thats error i get have to make phone call while routers syncing and connecting to internet for it to connect

ACTIVATE ADSL

Busy trying now and so far am not able to create a connection.

Have you gone to the Telklomsa.net website and ACTIVATED your ADSL account

If you phone the Telkom number to activate they can do it online -- ( meant to do it )

Quite often they do not so you have to go to the website and do it yourself.

What will happen is that your ADSL will sync and you will get an IP address but you will not be able to
actually go anywhere -- until the account is activated. ( quite a quick and simple process )

You should also make sure that you have a proper ADSL SPLITTER on ALL your phone lines that are incoming from Telkom ( fax / hand-held / mobile etc )

I also think that Telkom is doing something at the exchanges.

I have a similar problem where a Netgear syncs gets LCP and IPCP and works OK -- then the user switches off their computer until the next day.

Come to switch it on again the next day and the LCP is down  ( Some people just do NOT understand the difference between dial-up and DSL :erm::( )

I've had my ADSL line for over 3 years at the same premises.

There's nothing wrong with my setup as everything worked fine and then stopped. They must have been working on the exchange and messed something up.
