My fone is samsung D600 and I would like to know How exactly does 3G work?
Do you need some kind of special phone with a slot or somthing to use the card?

or what? :p

Is the D600 3G??

I know vodacom, i just installed the software for my phone, used its internet services, and selected what i use to connect to the internet.

Works same as GPRS, your phone either got 3G ability or not (and the D600 last i checked, do not have 3G?) .

If it does have 3G, follow the same steps for GPRS/EDGE connection, in fact if you already use GPRS and your phone were 3G capable AND there are 3G coverage you would be on 3G instead of GPRS....

The datacard is a seperate device if you don't want to use a cellphone [and costs as much too]. So yes you need a "special" phone OR the datacard , don't need both though.

The data card you talking about, is it a sepparate thing if you don't have 3G on your phone?

If your phone does not have 3g u can either get a 3g phone or a data card either cash or contract.

If I get the Data card and my phone doesn't have 3G How do you use the data card then from ur computer?

To connect to the 3G network you need a 3G device. This comes in two forms:

1) 3G Data Card: This is a PCMCIA card that plugs into your laptop, or your desktop via a PCI interface card. You still need to get a SIM for the card as the card essentially is a 3G mobile phone in another form factor.

2) 3G Phone: You can also use a normal 3G phone as a 3G modem. Again you need to have a normal SIM and have some kind of data bundle attached to the phone SIM.

You only need one of these units.

thats faster than ADSL?
Well, faster than the 192kbps "ADSL" and propably marginally faster than the 384 kbps offering. But there is a bit more latency on 3G than ADSL AFAIK.

if the speeds are that fast? what kind of cap useage do you get and how long does it last if you just surf webpages?
