What Does Your Rig Cost

I've spent probably around 15k on my (humble) main pc over time, incrementally upgrading etc. Initially it was a Athlon 4400+ X2, 1gb ram, 7800gtx then at some point upgraded mobo/cpu/ram to a Q6600/4gb ram then recently upgraded graphics to an ATI 6770. Hard drives have just kinda been added on and stuff over the years. Think the biggest one in there is still the first one at 320gb. Monitor is my second T260 (one got stolen and I fortunately acquired another one almost a year later). Cheapo logitech keyboard, mini microsoft wireless mouse. Had logitech X530's but swapped with my brother for his 2.1 creative speakers.

I mainly use my laptop though. First one was about 10k, next one second hand at 4.5k and current one also 4.5k second hand.

Also have HPMS as media box.
 
Thinking back now on my GPU's I have had over the last 4 years:

8800GT (512mb) +- 2.5K
GTX 280 (XFX XXX Edition 1gb) +- 5K (got it as it was released GTX 295 was not out yet)
HD 6870 (Eyefinity 2gb) +- 2.5K
GTX 670 (Windforce) 4.7K

Thats R300p/m on GPU's over 4 yrs!

A lot of bucks just on GPU's!

I can't even list the GPU's I've had over the last 5 years. Starting with 7300GS until the highest was 560ti but I've had 2 of them so far and I frequently downgrade to upgrade. Had a number of 8800's, 4850's, 4870's, 4890's, 7900gt, gtx260, gtx285, 440, 450, 460's, 5850's, 5870's, 6850, 560ti's.... I can't honestly remember. It's rare I'll hold onto a card more than a couple of weeks.
 
Think I worked mine out to R30k replacement cost in SA for insurance, its mostly the case (I value my time :p) and imported water cooling that drives it up.

Asus Essence STX sound card
120GB SSD agility 3
1.5TB HDD
MCP655 pump with aftermarket top

I just want a 120Hz screen at a good price... There isn't much choice in SA, and the one I wanted is not for sale anymore :(
 
I read that they overclock the screens somehow.... but I'm not interested in that, no need for 3D on it, so stock 50 - 60hz is fine for me.

Yes, it is my 30" IPS screen. The case is big, but it is not nearly as big as some of the Corsair or other E-ATX cases ;)

Unfortunately a similar screen to mine now costs R12k in SA :(

Don't want 3D either just want smoothness in games :)
 
IRG please let me know when you get the monitor and maybe how much in total you spent on getting it.

Really interested in getting one but not sure on import duties etc and the quality. I never use any tilt/pivot function so just want a great display that has no frills
 
This thread should be renamed "The Last of the Big Spenders".

I upgrade in dribs and drabs, every 18 months a new mobo, cpu and memory, then after a while a new hdd, maybe a better monitor (onto a 27" Samsung now). I always sell the stuff I have while it is worth something as I don't want to have to leave it on the pavement. I have a bergie who comes round here once a week and he takes old computers, boards, crt monitors, modems, printers, etc.
 
Converted to Rands, purchase price with shipping is about R3300.00. Im guessing I will pay roughly 14% VAT + 10% Duties so that will be about R840. But my guess is that the actual value of the monitor is about $250 (+-R2230), and this is what import duties & vat will be calculated on. This would be about R560. So best case scenario total cost will be +-R3860 and worse case will be +-R4173. Unless they charge more than 10% on import duties.... but will see. Anything under 6K is a bargain IMO....


EDIT:mmmmm those new Tax rates for Monitors larger than 20" popped into mind.... import duties may be as high as 32% ... which equates to R4356 and if there is still vat ontop of that +-5K ? Still better than any 1920 X 1080 27" local monitor....

Does the monitor have proper calibration controls built in? I know that's been an issue on some of those Asian models esp for fussier types.
 
when i look at the rigs on here i feel ashamed lol, but PC's is not my speciality, I do however feel I have one that can cope with what I use it for.........downloading.
