Generally, banks give you:
- medical aid (a certain percentage of subsidy in some)
- vehicle subsidy
- house subsidy

I am curious about other employees or business types, if you don't mind sharing.

Say what? Vehicle and house subsidies were nuked by SARS a long time ago.

Medical aid is also basically a 50/50 swap with SARS.

Most notably: 401k+matching, health/medical, dental, vision, life insurance - all of these for myself and partner (and kids if we had), access to non-standard investment vehicles.

Phone/cell/fiber perk

Only car insurance technically since everything comes out of my TCTC and is only structured for tax purposes.

I'd want to say medical aid but it was part of my ctc discussion so it's not really a benefit.

Outside of CTC, I’ve not seen much in SA

it’s always packed into CTC.. it’s weird and HR persons in SA need to be trained better.. ie you can’t say eg that you do pension matching when you already set offer value but expect the benefit to be part of it. I find this happens at most companies in SA along with the, no we can’t do a sample salary run. Similarly pension/ra/prov forced to be with xyz company or v% is not a benefit.

Similar with medical aid plans.. I’ve seen plans forced where the company has decided on eg full comprehensive or exec.

Group life.. yes you pay for it but that benefit I’ve always seen it being a fraction of what Individual plans cost.

Real benefits I’ve seen over years:

stock options(max of x% salary), loans at z%, study funds (20-25% sal/annum), 13th, 14th

My medical aid, RA, life cover, GAP Cover, etc all get deducted from my CTC.

The only thing I get free is a cellphone package subscription. So basically a R550 benefit every month.

Nothing remarkable, but I am obligated to belong to the company's retirement scheme (which is good and has low fees - I would never have saved the equivalent by myself, so that’s working out), and a limited choice of medical aid plans.

No performance bonuses, but that doesn’t worry me because I don’t perform.
