I have a LGA775 1066FB main board.
Intel pentium dual core.
Memory - Dual channel DDRII 667.
PCI Express
Processor - 2.2GHZ
When I bought this PC I also bought a spare board
so when the existing board packs up in a few years time
I'll be in a position to replace it. Therefore, I need to
stock up on spare Ram now while it's still available.
Hopefully my existing setup will be in use for a number of
years. Because of this I want to install a graphic card
that will still perform in years to come.
Can someone please recommend a card that will be
compatible with the above board specs?
Obviously it will need to support DX 10.
I was thinking in terms of the XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB.
What I am not sure about is that this card is DDR3 while
the board supports DDR2. Does this matter.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The ATI 4850 is the best value/performance card right now and supports DX 10.1, the 8800GT does not.

Edit:
The DDR2 of your board does not affect your card so don't worry about it.

The ddr2 support has to do with the systems ram and not ur GFX cards ram. So don't worry about that.
What is your budget for a GFX card?
Your best bet would most probably be the new 4850 card from ATI which outperforms the 8800GT. I have a XFX8800GT myself and it is an awesome card, but the 4850 is a better buy IMHO at the moment.

As Zenbaas said, the DDR2 is supported by your motherboard, it has nothing to do with the graphics card itself.

Depending on budget, I would also recommend the AMD/ATI HD4850 :)

Yea ATI4850 or 4870, just wait a month or so for prices to come down a bit, cheapest 4850 Ive seen online (Overseas) is $150... They going for R2500 here... In a month or so they should be around R2000

If they'll still be in stock... these things are selling fast

Sorry but this is SA. I doubt it will get to that price in even 4-5 months. If at all. Cheapest i've seen is R2400 from Llyod at digitalsaonline. I think Etai also has them for a good price.

The ATI HD4870 is also great value for money if you're willing to spend another grand or so above the HD4850. It's about R3500 in SA.

Finding stock might be difficult for a couple of weeks, though.

I would still like to wait for the 4870's prices to drop a bit. But good value nonetheless.

Sad but true HD3850's going for ~$100 and some for $89!! and we still pay 2k for them here!!

btw just a note Take2 has then for... 3k *sigh*

Otherwise HD4850 is the best right now!
