Im currently running a HD 4870 or 50 cant remember which, and ive noticed my fps drop like a mofo in dara, even with alot of the sliders low, i still notice quiet a bit of frame rape. I got this card last year and have been wanting to upgrade. What are you guys running and how do you see the performance in wow? i dont really play any other games, so my primary concern is performance in wow.

ATI Radeon 5650 HD 1GB Dedicated - HP Laptop

Geforce GTX 280 ... havent noticed any massive slowdowns to be honest. All my settings are cranked up to ultra settings though at max resolution.

Going to stick with ATI, considering all the components are ATI based.

I run a HD 4870 1GB and I'm fine most of the time. Sometimes there is massive drop in Dala after the patch but I see that as something buggy. Most of the time its fine.

I've been told before by Blizz technical that Wow is a CPU game for the most part. Oc Gfx card does allot, but not as much as other games. Don't know how much that changed with the patch or even how correct that is.

wow is single threaded cpu game, its all about cpu.

5850 gets me 50fps+ on 25 man intense fights, but thats having i7 clocked at 4.2ghz

Lol single threaded that made me lol'z you know that you can run multiple threads in a single process right ? ;), that being said there is the option in config.wtf to tell wow to use all cores. 5850 is overkill for what i want, and my CPU never go's over 30% when im raiding. Amd phenom x5 3.2ghz not even clocked.

yes then it splits it,but the real processing is done by 1 cpu, gfx stuff on another another etc.

a q6600 clocked 3.6ghz to i7 got me 25fps more lol

my cpu usage is pretty high i did put it on to use all cores.

il recommend a hd6850 from landmarkpc for R2200 is very nice card :)

Ok let me explain basic game engine 101. Shader language (HLSL), is processed via the gpu, terrain mipmapping, specular occulsion culling, LOD, etc. CPU has sometimes very little when it comes to games in terms of perfomance, obviously you need a nice cpu, but in the end its the gfx that matters. CPU would be used for stuff loading, memory allocations/deallocations to pointers for the game, game object handling, actual game data. i would rather eat my own ass than use intel.

you can have 9800gtx for full hd for wow it will run fine as long you have the cpu power, wow just old game and they to lazy to change the coding.

amd then you go for the phenom 2 qaud for some extra cpu headroom.

If you did not bother to read the patch notes, they are utilizing dx11 now as of patch 4.0.1, the water engine has been rewritten aswell. So they HAVE changed the "coding". And budd, you go with your 98gtx into a massive populated dara area you will lag your nuts off, no matter if you have a 50ghz processor

I posted about this once or twice in other threads relating to 4.0.1 release - I was lagging (FPS lag) terribly, which turned out to be a few faulty mods... Disable all your mods and log in, if it's still getting frame raped then erm...try new drivers?

(For the purpose of the thread: HD5770 1Gb)

dx 11 you need edit your wtf file to use that, if not it uses normal dx9, and the dx11 is buggy ,when you minimize your wow is your background.

they need redo the whole to actually use all cores of cpu, posted by blizz poster in technical forums, thread where they say to set your affinity mask.

9800gtx will just be fine in high intense, area don't have friend with one atm, but my hd 4890 played it fine got the same fps as my 5850

While you are correct in saying it's buggy (Blizzard used the term "Experimental"), you don't edit your WTF file, just the exe shortcut to include -d3d11

I run minimal addons, and my gf runs no addons and she has massive fps spikes. Will get the 5770, need a new card anyways.

GTX 275 with 896mb onboard, running on a oldish 2.4ghz quad core (Q6600 I think?). Since the patch I've noticed my frame rate has generally gone up & is a lot smoother these days, which seems to be the exception to the rule judging by the comments here.
The processor & mobo are definitely showing their age now so I'll be upgrading sometime soon, probably to an i7, though chances are I'll keep the gfx card I have now.
