What is a. Net developer

Some java developers still use J# (.net), therefore your comment is nonfactual.

I see this is the serious internet again.

In our tech-obsessed age everyone is an engineer. Sales Engineer. Domestic Engineer. Even MBAs do business engineering. Seems we're all just cogs in the Great Engine. ;)

Some countries wont allow you to designate yourself as "engineer" unless you've earned a industry body recognised degree in Engineering and completed necessary apprenticeship . I think I remember this from either the UK or US.

I think you guys care too much about titles. They only time it becomes an issue is when a woman asks you "what do you do for a living?". Best to tell her you help orphaned puppies at the SPCA than the truth anyway.

In my clubbing days, saying you worked in finance when asked that question generally killed the conversation, because invariably the next step was to explain what you did, which is a deal breaker (unless the girl is also in finance).

So a mate and I just used to say we were firemen, which wasn't entirely a lie since we were registered volunteer bush fire fighters lol.

Or tell her you are a hunter: "Ek trek bokkies plat!" :D ... no wait, don't do that :erm:

You should have added that you have the kit to role play:P

In my experience, the only time title matters is when you are being sought after by headhunters - too junior/generic, and you can easily get passed over. Apart from that, the company can call me the Senior Tea Lady (Senior Tea Architect?), as long as the work is interesting and the salary is good.

Yeah I second this. Titles are irrelevant, waht is important is what you do, what you take home and to some degree who you work with

So... anyone think the OP knows what a .NET developer is now?

Hey guys I'm doing my first year of Software Dev and I'm really confused by what a .NET. Developer is and does could someone PLEASE clarify this for me. Thanks in advance

Its a device for turning coffee into code using the .Net Framework suite of tools.

Besides - you are first year - focus on learning the fundamentals of development. The languages are a dime a dozen, the concepts behind them are much more important to anyone who wants to call himself a developer.

That's the truth right there.

Although this one bastard behind me doesn't drink coffee.
I think he uses the analogy "turning steroids into code".
