Well its such a pity we are so limited and restricted from the services we want 
Heres an interesting thought....what should the price of data be? I mean the content you download, if legal, is payed towards the content provider...eg music. So in essence the value of the data transmitted should not be worth more than the actual content of the data.
Enter Vodacom @ R2 a meg for instance. Thats roughly a little over R160000 to fill up an 80 gig hard drive. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm wheres the logic in that?????
So we take that 80 gig hard drive...worth say R500.00 to be easy and safe. That works out at R0.00625 a meg.
Now considering the service provider requires a profit to pay for assets, infrastructure etc etc etc its reasonable to charge a lot more. But at gross value of the data you are paying about 32000% more than the value of those sectors you are filling up on your hard drive

The price of data should be set like anything else - ie the cost of manufacturing plus a reasonable profit margin. It's data - so what you do with it is irrelevant as is the legality.

Its just a thought and quite shocking if you look at it that way. Just another dimension to see it at.
But yes bwana you are right, it should be a simple matter of the cost of manufacturing plus a reasonable profit margin.
But the definition of the word reasonable has escaped the likes of Telkom and those controlling bandwidth pricing and SAT3 rental.
One thing is that dealing with economics I definately think the scale of price is to sales would show us that their bandwidth pricing is profoundly ridiculous and downright stupid.
Yes I am pointing towards that old economies of scale arguement many mention. There is definately a more favourable price range for these services that would see the ratio of consumer affordability and sales both increase further, there is no question about it. So why dont these people see it that way??? Im just so lost as to why these people are simply not interested in moving forward and making things favourable for everyone including themselves....do they all love making things difficult?
