What is so wrong with being right wing?

If you are comparing Obama to Palin you really are as conservative and right wing as they come. Good for you again :D

Both are empty vessel populists.

I was thinking more around the time of Lincoln ;) He was a lil before the 60`s :D

So how do you explain that vote? How come the nasty rightwingers out voted your good 'ol "great society" leftwing dems?

You have just proven that article true that conservative right wingers suffer from autism. Dude... stop acting like Malema and think. How many times have I told you I dont support the Dems? Do you want me to write it on the bottom of a bottle of moonshine so you will actually get that? Also, if anything your comment supports my earlier statement ;)

Now that's just sad. Quoting Stephen Colbert:o

Eish the earlier statement that Republicans were liberal :wtf:

You gotta lay off the ganga and go read up on Republicans of that era. Like John Foster Dulles for example. Liberal my ass

Just because Africa prefers a left-wing approach to democracy (and a very right-wing approach to dictatorships) it does not mean right-wing parties cannot include the majority of people. Hell, even the DA isn't a right wing party, it is a moderate left-wing party. We have to ask ourselves why? Why is there an opinion that right-wing = racist rather than conservative (as it is very well labelled in the UK).

The right-wing/left-wing dichotomy is relative to the prevailing regime. During Nationalist rule, the DA (in its then incarnation) would have been centre-left. In the current regime they could be considered centre-right. In the USA I would be considered ‘left’ because I support the Democrats. In SA I would be considered ‘right’ because I won’t toe the ANC line (everyone who doesn’t toe the ANC line is a right-wing, racist reactionary). Right/left wing is relative to the local political climate.

i find the trouble comes in when you agree with some things of a particular wing and not others. i know that many racists use the term "liberal" as an insult and apply it to anybody who thinks it's okay to be friendly or tolerant with other races. it becomes too complicated, because although people often want the same outcome they have different methods of getting there and maintaining it. i consider myself right-wing too, although i'm atheist, pro-choice and not bothered by race, which most right wingers are.

Here we go, the post causing Tim to get all huffy. Now bear in mind we are talking Zuma, clearly left of centre, on the thread from which this is taken. And my view seemed to differ from the generally held consensus. After being accused of causing k@k I responded:

Now I personally cannot see the insult in that. Tim, could you please point it out.

Because Lancelot expressing your opinion isn't the exclusive preserve of the left-wing; you seem to be under the impression that right wingers intend to created a dictatorship that silences all opinion.

Its alright, I understand you dont know much about the liberal Lincoln and when he was in charge of the Republican Party... thats okay with me.. you gotta lay off the crack man :D

I disagree completely. The DA is definitely still moderate left wing - just by the mere definition of its goals and policies. Just because you have a more more left wing party does not shift your position. The ANC considers the DA more right that they are, but that by no means makes the DA right wing.

Just remember it was the Democrats that supported war (a very right wing approach) and the Republicans opposed civil war (being a left wing approach). As you can see: their policies at the time easily support this claim.

The GOP was a left wing organisation in the mid-1800s. That is why Lincoln is a very popular choice for "hero worship" in the current Democratic Party.

Nope, but then China is ultra-left wing; the right wing are for free trade, the Chinese obviously not.
They're not, that is exactly the point. It gets called free trade, but it really means open as long as it is in our favour.

Seeing as this was posted by Mister Tinfoil Hat "9/11 conspiracy theorist" himself - I can comfortably go to work knowing that the so called right wingers are as loony as Sarah Palin!

You just demonstrated why liberals are worth ignoring.

You still going on about Lincoln. Get with the program. I'm still waiting for an explanation why these rightwing republicans out voted the leftwing Dems in favour of the civil rights act of 1964.

The same thing is happening in the U.S.

Dems supported the war and Republicans not. It's the other way around.

It's the usual simpleton emotional liberal idol worship "OMG he fought slavery, my hero" crap. They of course ignore the fact he wanted to deport blacks from the U.S :erm:

Er... it's well known that communism is the far left wing? Everything about communism is completely social in nature and socialism, as we know, is the foundation of the moderate to far left wing. Which text books have you been reading from?

Alan I wasn't discussing Lincoln and Republicans during the civil war with you, if you didn't want to talk about it then why did you jump on the band wagon? Honestly, go bother someone else.

Why? How about the answer "I dont care"? My statement was in reference to a much earlier time period. I dont give a hoot about the politics in the 1960`s so far as my point is concerned. As far as I am concerned american democrats are normally right of my politics and republicans far right of my politics.

Again your autism is kicking in... you think I would care to defend the democrats. lol. You are the apologetic, not me ;) I admit the Dems suck :D Republicans suck more :D

Tim, I don't know where you did your studying, but it is a well known fact that extreme right wing and extreme left wing are virtually the same as far as wanting to have total control of everything.

The original Communistic ideology was just that...a dream of a Utopia where all men were equal. What they didn't work out at the time was that the leaders would want to be more equal than the rest of the masses. Net result is that your Left Wing dictator (eg Stalin) is very similar to a Right Wing dictator such as Hitler. Both people need ultimate power and rule their people with an iron rod.

You cannot lump all liberal thinking in with the Communists, just as it would be wrong to lump all right wing thinking in with the Nazis.
