. How long is a piece of string?
For a 5 page custom designed website I'd charge around R1500. But I don't do this professionally.
It takes me about 10 hours to make a design, about 40 hours to turn it into HTML. I have my own CMS that I use (which is basically a very versatile blog, the code of which I'm familiar with). It's about 55 hours of work, tops.
Dude?:wtf:
R1500 for 55 hours? That's toughly R27.3 per hour
While we are still on the per hour subject. What's the rate for prostitutes these days?![]()
Being a bit more serious though. How long is a piece of string?
- who does the graphics?
- what type of website?
- what type of content?
- who maintains (if needed) it?
Being on the topic what would you guys say is a fair price for a 5 Page Website, with some customized graphics
My company paid around R6000
Sweet lord.
I think maybe East London has taught me to actually charge what things are worth. 5 pages != R6000
I wish I could charge that as I think I am worth it, but not in Bloemfontein though, they already complain about R2k
A website like this www.websitehosting-sa.co.za

Like I said, I do this as a hobby. I'm a decent designer but I'm really bad at HTML and CSS. If I were good I could do the CSS in a lot less time. I wouldn't rip someone of because of my incompetence.
Here's my current project: http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5759/blade2k16.png
I finished the design yesterday, that took from about 10am - 5pm.
I'm sure it wouldn't take an experienced developer longer than 15 hours to turn that into real layout. So the actual time it should take me is around 25 hours which is R60 an hour which is a good wage.
@czc: I can kinda understand if there were a lot of additional services involved - most clients provide their own copy (which makes things much simpler). At the end of the day if that's what a client is comfortable paying and they're happy then that's all that really counts.
Out of interest - 12 plain html pages?
Client: “I need a new website, the one I have is crap. I paid some cheap designer to do it for $200.”
Me: “Yeah, with cheaper designers you never know what you’ll get.”
Client: “I’ll never make that mistake again.”
Me: “Well, after reviewing your needs I would estimate this website to be about $1,200.”
Client: ”Really… let me think about it.”
[2 weeks later I call to check back]
Client: “This price is ridiculous. I know someone who can make this whole thing for like $250.”

Depends on the brief. Logo required? Special images? Photography? Dynamics? Static?
I personally feel it's unfair to designers to give a price without a decent brief first.
To all designers request a full brief first from potential clients before quoting. Or sit down with your client first. Get to know them. And don't be shy to ask what their budget is.
And most importantly never start a job without a contract and a deposit. Safeguard yourself and the client.

I pay my domestic worker more, how good are you at ironing?
