What makes a video game difficult?

But I do agree with Tarryn about the cheapness of the developers...

Many of the Veteran stages is nothing more than a shower storm of grenades and "very clever" AI, with the bots being able to see through 10 buildings to lob grenades or mortars/bombs at you. Or at some points it becomes virtually impossible to go beyond a certain corner as you get "headshot" by a sniper no matter how you approach it (smoke, grenades, run, crawl, etc)...

I half left MyGaming because of this chicks articles. I cant bear reading them on myBB. Come on guys, keep the quality high.

Yep. Can anyone here think of a RTS where the AI does not cheat?

I tried COD4 on the high setting too. Its freaking impossible. At some point you're staring at 5-6 grenade indicators on your screen & decide fck this.

Unreal Tournament is interesting RE cheating too. In the early ones the bot's dodging code was hardwired to you mouse button, so if you shoot they occasionally do a perfect dodge at the right moment. The UT dev's are quite aware of the issue w/ AI though...hell they even made fun of it w/ the bot voice acting ("Raise our skill" and "Increment nerf count").

Style is a bit weak, but hardly disastrous.

zealot rush

erm, yes I do remember being owned by an AI zealot rush... and then I learnt the build order, upped my mouse/keyboard shortcut skills, and I started storming the AI with his own strat!

please! As with all things in life, practice makes perfect!

I don't see why there is a problem with this artile? It looks basically at a very important issue in gaming. I do believe it shouldn't necessarily be here on the main headlines for MyBB, but I certainly disagree that this is a crappy article.

I quite enjoyed COD4 on veteran until I came to the Ferris/grenade wheel of death :D

i finished this game on veteran, the ferris wheel level was actually easy if you took up position by the buildings, close to where most of the enemies spawn, anyway halo reach had some impressive ai for a shooter, love the fact that the hunters were a proper challenge this time, especially on legendary.

I think her articles are of an acceptable calibre TBH, what don't you like about them?

I don't know why someone hasn't pointed this out already, but the subject is almost irrelevant in the vast majority of games these days. Most (single player) games are easy these days. One thing that makes them easy, is that you can just hit the quicksave key every minutes. The game will also be doing seperate autosaves at key points incase you quicksave after some stupid mistake.

Having to load 30 times to make it through one corridor in a shooter or to slash up one group of orcs in an RPG means either you are slow/stupid or the name of the difficulty is coined 'impossible' for a reason. You literally cannot succeed without cheating yourself, i.e. you first have to fail in order to see where all the enemies are and what they can or are going to do. Now after this trial-and-error approach you can counter the difficulty by doing the impossible: predict the future :-P .
