What mountain bike for a beginner?

Even though they do not normally stock them I got mine at Flandria (next to Pick'n'Pay in Stellenbosch). They sold it to me for R4900 back in September when the 2012 model came out. Aweeks before that my dad bought the same model GT at Masons for R5500 and they are actually a GT shop. I know Helderberg Cycle World at Somerset Mall also sells this GT for R5500. Maybe check with Flandria if they can get you a good price on it.

I'm not sure you are going to get any other 29er that is as good equipped as this one for the money.
 
I've got the mountain bike fever so found a serfas xc3 for R800 on gumtree.
 
Currently at the wild coast with a R600 mountain bike and enjoying it immensely but it's hard on the bike and the body so after something up to 2k for wild coast type riding and farm type riding
 
Giant was first brand I thought of when looking

Wish I could stick go pro on my bike at the moment , covering some awesome looking locations here at Mazeppa bay.
 
No mention of size. Number 1 priority when buy a bike, is getting one that actually fits.
26" is on the way out. 27.5" or 29" is the way to go.

Fits as in size of the rider?

I'm 5.8 and weigh 75kg.
 
No, those are wheel sizes, old mountain bikes had 26" wheels, then came 29" wheels. The rim on a 29" mountain bike is more or less the same diameter as on road bikes.

The frame size of the bike is what you use to decide if it fits your build. I would say you should go for a medium or large frame. I used to ride large but now I ride XL and it is more comfortable for my build. All my bikes have been 29ers

Ja i saw on bikehub guys giving the same advice to go for 29ers.
 
I would rather buy a good second hand bike than a new Game bike. I do not think they will last.
