EDIT: also needed to fire up Libreoffice countless times when I received locked down Excel files via email.

Google docs doesn't have an offline suite. It has limited offline support through the chrome browser extension which is not very reliable.
Google Docs online is awesome and one of the best, offline it absolutely sucks. Microsoft Office is awesome offline, online it sucks.

If you have Microsoft 365 offline support. Just download all the office 'apps' and you have one of the best.

Yap that's what I do. Use my Unisa details even though my course is complete. Wonder how long it will stay activated before it expires...

It probably is a lifetime sub. The Uni pays a once-off license fee to MS for it's software, not per student. It's subsidised by MS as well.

Currently Office 365, but downloaded the suite.

Just hit the install office option. Currently using with both uni and work license (depending on machine).

Otherwise I usually install Libre Office on machines, it's more than good enough for 99% of stuff, with Google Suite if collaboration is needed.

I got my kids a mahala.ms account--and there is not email service or Teams service for this. It is meant to be a student account.

+1 , although I work on all, I sometimes think that "buying once, own forever" is much better for home use, compared to the SaaS model of 365 or all other software for that matter.

100%. It has its place if it's a stand-alone installation. Doesn't make sense if you have a business or need more than 1 due to the way the licensing works on M365.

Using 365 family plan. So cheap and everyone in the house gets legit working hassle free Office and cloud storage.

Still using 2010. I had it on my Hard Drive for years and it is the easiest thing to load. It still seems to do the job because I mostly use it for typing out documents and don't need any advanced features.
