What MultiChoice is doing about declining DStv Premium subscriber numbers

What MultiChoice is doing about declining DStv Premium subscriber numbers... Aside from whining, nothing.

No not nothing! They are very actively upsetting even more of their loyal customer base that has been with them since day 1.

So, let them continue, the sooner MC implodes, the better off we will all be.

Given the billing issues I've currently got where they just magically reactivated an old decoder on my account and I'm struggling to get them to reverse the bullshyte charges ... I am guessing they're actively driving away customers

Oh yes, they did that to many of us. The official excuse was programming error. Took me a month to get my money back. The answer is NOT to just make the decoder inactive but to go to MC direct not an agency and get the decoder completely removed off your account and scrapped.

Paying high a price for many repeats is the ideal to get your customers to run away! Added to that, they have ridiculous increases every year compared to the competition!

That day when terrestrial TV eventually migrates (inept DoC imbeciles) and the residual spectrum becomes available to ISPs, is the day Mr CEO will remove his head from the sand. Cheaper uncapped broadband, affordable and accessible to most, will be DStv biggest challenge.

It’s a Joke

You guys are still blaming everyone else but yourselves. You have been ripping us off for years. Now get with the program or get off the air.

Pound costs:
Sky TV All channels excluding sport - 20 (has a 3 record plus 1 view) http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/
Add All Sports - 20 http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/sports
Add BT Sports for the other EPL games you don't have - 28 (plus 20 activation) https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/sport/sky/

That's 68 pounds. I don't know if the basic Sky TV is better than the general DSTV. This whole Sky package comes in at R1,230.

The claim is not outrageous when you look at DSTV Premium.

Clearly the issue here is that the traditional form of TV watching is expensive.

edit - i'll take bryn's point that one is 1080p.

Sky Q the basic one may be 1080i

ntv.mx at €20 used to cover all the bases but seems to be gone now

“I don’t think we are expensive in terms of the full entertainment package that we give,” said Mawela.

Clearly Mawela is detached from reality. If he was even remotely in touch, he'd know that price is a the major contributor toward their declining subscriptions. As they maintain their yearly increments, so too will the numbers drop. Netflix is blame, but it is a far cheaper, more convenient alternative.

Sport is one of the main reasons many, many more haven't already ditched their subscription.

In our household, my wife is slowly coming round to the beauty of streaming. It's the only reason we have not yet ditched DSTV. As soon as she is ready to consume solely by streaming (documentaries and reality type programs would need to be available on demand), then I will can it. I could do with the saving from switching to alternatives.

Jassis!, watching DSTV at a family members house, after hearing the same advert 6 times in the space of an hour I couldn't take it anymore and went to the pc to watch Youtube (adblocker active), not only do they repeat their shows but the adverts those damned adverts.......! How do people sit there and watch it and feel normal, my brain feels like it was assaulted by that nonsense.

Nevermind the repeats, the content sucks as they well know, otherwise we could choose and pay for selected channels.

This is the only way they can recover lost income!

They keep doing that to me every month, and every month i spend 20-30 minutes on the phone trying to explain to them that the decoder and smartcard were stolen during a house break in 4 years ago....

My advice is go into DSTV offices direct . in your case a copy of the police theft report or case number should help. Yes it is a pain but it is the only way to get that decoder off your name and scrapped. It will also sort out whomever the thief sold the decoder to .... Some sort of Karma.

Ask your tv show producers to stop making 40 min series episodes will be a start.

That's a dishonest way of looking at it. Paytv all over have a cap on paid ads income because they are...pay tv. To fill that 20 minutes in the hour, they need to fill it with their own inhouse crap.

Also, ads are bought by timeslot, so a paid ad running all the time is just business. I can remember when Ariel was introduced, the ads ran all day, every day on all channels, paid and free tv. Now everybody uses Ariel, even the poor.

Conclusion: It pays to annoy some with ads.
