What next for Armstrong?

Cycling is rife with doping. Unfortunately for Lance he is the highest profiled doper, so he gets the biggest target on his back.

True - I guess we will never know. All have his samples have still been negative though which throws a spanner in the works. (Barring the one A sample, where the B sample was negative)

Apparently with all the new testing going on they are pretty confident of finding something. That and the fact that a lot of evidence has come to light, of Armstrong and other parties helping him cover up any test that was positive

He still has the last laugh with all the bucks he made :D

Well thats cool unless he is found guilty of criminal charges and possible jail time, in which case the money will only slightly ease his pain.

I must say I tend to agree with these two points. It is a real tragedy, sure. Doping is tainting sport, especially cycling (or maybe cycling is just getting more noticed at the moment). And it has become a joke. I fall way short of getting excited about cricket because of the match fixing scandals that have tainted it over the years. I think that is far worse than doping but all of a sudden, doping is the new white horse that all the knights have chosen to charge down. For the sportspeople who DO NOT dope, I can understand the annoyance - they are not competing on a level playing field. Beyond that, why go so far with Lance? Criminal charges? FFS...

He lied in court, he perjured himself so he should be punished, no one should get special treatment.

But I agree with you that its getting bloody annoying when you love a sport and these things. I can remember how it destroyed me when Hansie admitted to taking bribes.

Well he is the one with seven Tour de Frauds under his belt :D

@doobyscoo. Seems like Lance is in big doodoo :D

Wish they would just legalise it all and then everyone can compete without these circus events every few years. Imagine what's going to happen when the samples taken from the Olympics get tested years down the line.

Well, yes, that is the complete balls up. Still, despite what Hansie admitted to (and took the fall for - because he was certainly not alone) I wished no ill (prison or death) upon the guy - we all make mistakes. And on that note, even if Lance perjured himself, there are far worse people (we have many) serving no time at all for far worse (or more real) crimes.

They are going so far, because they need to prove a point. At the moment, the threat of a 2 year ban isnt enough.
The penalty for doping needs to become so harsh, that you wouldnt even consider it.

Anyone saying doping should just be made legal is insane. These guys would go beyond a bit of doping and end up killing themselves.

hotels were transformed into bloodbanks

This just sounds like a movie... why did the hotel staff not said anything before? I swear it just seems to big.

( not saying it is not true)

I was extremely angry with the whole hansie thing. The guy was supposed to be a role model, someone representing his country. Other people used to represent their country and still have another job, looking for more money to trade in on integrity and national pride is disgusting. I cannot know what it was like to be in his shoes, and i am sure he took the fall for a lot of guys, but in the end, he still did it, and i will loathe him as long as i am alive.

Jail time is harsh, but he probably did commit the crime. You cannot ignore someone breaking the law, just because there are more people out there getting away with worse things

I hear what you are saying and while I can see your point, I think in a sport that is so rife with this "plague", a different course of action is required. Harsher actions may not be that correct course. On legalisation, I dunno - do pro wrestlers not use dopes? Their life expectancy speaks for itself...

Last man standing is the winner!!!

Can we merge this thread with Acid's drinking alone one - last man standing wins.

I'm pretty sure pro wrestlers get a salary/ match fee, there's no prizes or sponsorships involved...

Hansie. Never looked at cricket the same way again. Even now when I hear xyz won at the back of my mind there is always a thought that the game was rigged.

Certainly cycling will lose fans as well until something gives.

Even a life ban isnt enough, all sponsorship deals and prize money should have the clause "if caught doping, you are paying it all back".

Not sure on the pro wrestlers, but if you let cyclists EPO themselves (amongst other things) as much as they want, there will be deaths. The sport is extremely demanding on the body. I dont think there are many other sports that can put that kind of strain for that long on the athlete. And you know the mentality of these guys, they are never say die hardcore must win kinds of people. I think they will dope as much as their doctor says they can, and then still do more behind their backs.

Dude got treated like schit. Folks should be ashamed for how they hung him out to dry, regardless of what happened.

already there, i have no interest in cycling, and especially the tour anymore. And most people I speak to who used to be fans feel the same way (oddly F1 has also seemed to have lost the interest of ppl around me, but for different reasons). It will take something spectacular to get me hooked again.

i think whoever he covered up should be ashamed, he got treated the way he should have in my opinion. The guy cheated. He betrayed his country and the fans supporting him for money. I am 100% certain, he truly regretted it, and that he was a decent guy. But it still happened, and he paid the price (not the death part, but the rest of it)

Some of them juice hard, without doubt. Plus they use a myriad of other substances. It's quite a lifestyle (not for the best as it is destructive) when you read about it.

They sign contracts like any other professional athlet. . .I mean actor. BUT, the personality/image is the property of the WWE, so you are unable to market it privately. You get a share of merchandise, but not the whole pie. When wrestlers cross shows - back in the day it was WCW to WWF and vice-versa - they had to alter their image/personality because their previous company held the copyrights to them. Mark Calaway would not be able to wrestle as "The Undertaker" in TNA Wrestling because the WWE owns the rights to that name and the whole personality/image.

He did regret it. Did you see him in court? He knew he cocked up, but c'mon man. Fine him and suspend him. But throw him out in the cold like they did?
