Friend of mine is staying in a complex and has his dstv pvr 2 channel connected to the wall plug going through a two way splitter.

Some of the channels just look like this? Any ideas?

Looks to me like its DSTV's built in censorship algorithms..

They don't want you to see Martinez or Venus Williams in skimpy tennis clothing at Wimbledon.

You need a dual LNB for a PVR and you can't just split the cable.
Some channels needs vertical and horizontal feeds to work, am sure SS1 is one of them.

Was happening to me a few weeks back and there was a tree growing in the way of the dishes line of sight, chopped it down and worked perfectly again, might be somewhat related?

Its possible that Martinez is missing some match practise.
Could be wrong though.
:p

Might be a problem with the splitter... Try remove the splitter (connecting the cable to LNB 1 input only), and check the channels...

Do not use a splitter. Use a multiswitch.

And as mentioned before, check signal strength for that specific channel as different channels "could" have different signal strengths due to different frequencies.

Do not use a multiswitch if it is a single cable IF conversion system installed at the complex. Let me know the complex name, before you guys try any of the above suggestions...

That's the one right at the end of the road? I have not been there before. Will contact Daniel from Horizon Satellite tomorrow. He should be able to tell me what system is in there and if there are any problems...

yup thats the one! :)

I mentioned the name Daniel to my mate and he said he had spoken to Daniel already apparently. Wanted to charge R400 to come look or something so he left it...

but seriously it should just work!!

Anyway, lemme know if he needs to go buy a multiswitch coz right now hes got a splitter in there.

trying to watch Nadal and Del Potro was quite a mission lol :D

If communal satellite distribution was that simple, I would not have a job! Will check with Daniel tomorrow and give you the right advice. Does he know his neighbours? Do they have similar issues?

Busy day. Only spent 30mins at the office. Daniel says that there is a multiswitch system in there. If you use a splitter, you will not have full functionality on a HD decoder. If you are watching a vertically polarized channel (like MNet), recording will fail on a horizontal channel (like Animal Planet). What is probably happening there (this is just a guess) causing the digital break-up, is that he is using a splitter which only handles frequencies 5-1000MHz. He needs to use one that can handle 5-2150MHz, with the power pass line to input #1... Check on the 2-way splitter for the specs.

If he wants full functionality, you would have to pay to get a second cable feed from the main system...
