At your house, Don't you remember?
I went to buy a secondhand bike from an Advert! I went to the guys place and test drove it!
I gave my Traffic registration document and proof of residence so he can register the bike under my name!
It's nearly one week that he has my documents and now he says I sold the bike already and makes excuses to give me back my documents! Im not sure if he is really busy or trying to pull some tricks...
CAn he do anything with my documents? should I be worried about this?

Are you mad??? Why would you give a complete stranger your documents? Registering a vehicle in your name is YOUR responsibility as the buyer, not the seller's responsibility. This guy saw you coming from a mile away. You can probably kiss your money and your documents goodbye.

By the way, you don't require proof of residence to register a vehicle in your name. So that should have been a big warning sign.

This.

Go to the police, do an affidavit(can be used to keep you clean should shyte hit the fan). Then ask them where to from there...

Thanks for your input guys.

1) I went inside his house in a big complex, he didn't seem like scammer! and I have his home address so it didnt appear to be a scam!
2) proof of residence I'm sure is necessary!
3) I havent paid him yet!

Still I dont know whats wrong with this guy! The question is what he can do with this documents!

I register vehicles all the time, I can assure you that proof of residence or address is absolutely 100% not required when registering a vehicle.

What's the worst that could happen? He could use your traffic registration document (which I assume you have because you're a foreigner) to register vehicles in your name and then commit crimes with those vehicles.

Where he lives has no bearing on whether he is a scammer or not.

Proof of residence is not necessary.

You have given this man all sorts of identifying info that he didn't need... be wary of your bank accounts and credit record for the foreseeable future.

Slight thread derail, but I see you are from Cape Town. Just out of curiosity do you know which areas receive which lettering on number plates when you register a new vehicle? I know greater Cape Town gets CA and Bellville areas CY but is there a list anywhere of suburbs in the middle and what they get?

I'm not an expert on that, but as far as I know the number plates start with:

Cape Town CBD, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, South Peninsula, Parow, Goodwood, up until Bellville - CA
Bellville, Durbanville - CY
Kuilsriver - CF
Kraaifontein - CFR

Those are the main Cape Town registration marks. Somerset West also has its own mark, but I can't remember offhand what it is.

Okay great, thanks! Was just curious as to what I would get. I fall under Goodwood so wondered if it would be CA but just wanted to ask out of curiosity.

See my post above, you're going to get a CY

I also wondered about that, but the salesperson also said CA. I am not sure how accurate Wikipedia is - those sources don't let on too much.
