Here are my sytem specs:

ASUS P5K SE P35 M/B
Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66Ghz
2Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 2x1Gb
Force3D HD3870
Plenty Hard Drive Space

What I want to know is, I mainly use this PC to d/l lots, play some games etc. I have the choice of either 32 or 64 bit, XP or Vista, which 1 should I go for?

Well, I'll also be looking at going up to 4Gb ram, so Vista 64 does make more sense. Any major games/programs having an issue going 64 bit?

Vista 64 all the way! Don't waste your time with 32 bit anything, and I had no driver issues with my system.

Why does everyone ask this question???

People should know by now that XP is still the best.

But if u have a new pc with high system specs with more than 2gigs of ram, then vista is best option. Theres also the + of having DX10 if ur graphics card supports it

Dual Boot is still unbeatable... Asking myself each time I boot my PC: "Am I in a Linux mood, or in a Windows mood today"... is just awesome. Best of both worlds. :D

Are u running the latest version of linux. I havent used it in years.

I dual boot between Vista and Linux but only use Vista for Gaming. Linux is my Main OS.

I recommend Vista 64, make use of your 64Bit hardware.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I'll go 4 64 bit Vista SP1, hope it will be awesome!

And remember, when you're ready to start learning what really goes on in a PC, and how to really use it.. Dual boot, start playing with Linux. :D

I'd wait for Windows 7, before you spend all your money in Vista

It depends on what you want to do.

If you want to play Direct X10 games, you should only run Vista.
If you want plenty of RAM, you should use Vista 64.

If you want to do everything else you should run XP.
Yes, if you have 4GB of RAM Vista will take advantage of that
extra 1GB but then again it's such a slow resource hog, is it really worth it?

It all depends on what you want to do.

Many businesses and individuals can't go to Vista because crucial software often does not work with Vista. My dad's company (a large multinational) has this problem. Also Vista is a memory and resource hog.

Overall, I'd say XP but if you need the newest games with DX10 it's Vista or even better buy an Xbox360 or a Sony PS3. Ideally get a Wii as both SONY and MS are worth each other.

I tried Linux before, but I'm not that much involved to appreciate it.

And who said anything about buying it? :D
