Hey

Can anyone of you please provide me with the correct feedback.

I wan't to upgrade my Pc. At the moment I have A Core 2duo E8600 2.14Ghz
And a Gigabyte 7600GT screen card.. with 2gig Ram 160Gig Sata Hdd.

I got my system in march 27 2007 so its about 2.4 years old.. I want to play
Games on it again.. But I can't seem to run even the Pc format demo's now a day's everything is set on low graphs and the Games still lags way to much...

Currently I'm running Windows Xp.. I would also like to know If I should rather move to windows vista or stay with xp? Or maybe just a Reformat?

Maybe I should stay with the CPU and only update my Graphics card? The cpu still do Great loading times

Thanks!!!

Maybe just an upgrade of your graphics card and RAM? as your CPU looks pretty good....
and will cost you a lot less than re-building an entire PC..

You should keep your cpu and upgrade your HDD, graphics card and ram. Right now HDDs are at an unbelievable price. You can get 1tb for less than R1k now which was unthinkable a little while ago. Also memory is at an all time low. Get 4gb of ram and a 1tb hdd - then spend R3k for a 4890 and you'll be laughing. You really don't need to change your processor at all.

Indeed. Quite a nice position to be in.

Maybe throw some cash at a new screen? T260s going for R3500 now

You can save a boatload if you have a 9k budget.

But since you've been advised to not upgrade the CPU and mobo, don't necessarily go and blow all your budget on a top spec GPU. Still go for something that gives you the most bang for your buck. And then use the rest of your money to accessorize your PC ... UPS, water-cooling or better CPU fan, external harddive, Bluray drive, etc.

1) Get a 1TB HDD for -R1k
2) Spend about +-R3k on a GPU (4890 is very good)
3) Get 4GB DDR2 RAM +-R500

That CPU is pretty good so no need to change that :)
Keep XP or go windows 7 RC1 :)
Remember to get a 64-bit OS for ur 4GB od RAM

dude get a better gfx card... that is your main problem

I got an E8200 and Im running all games 1680x1050 so dont worry about your CPU at all! :)

Another hard drive, stick of 2GB ram and a GFX and off you go!!

And you will save a bundle of money to boot! :D

It depends what brand. Really it depends on how many amperes your PSU can deliver at 12V. But a 500W should be fine.

Basically because if you upgrade to a fancy new GFX card your CPU will be the bottleneck
It depends. What motherboard do you have? You might not have to, maybe you can overclock.

what would be a better CPU? If i upgrade to a better CPU then i'll probably will need a new mb aswell...

Probably not but what MB do you have?

A GPU alone will make a big difference in your life, no need to spend 9k

Gigabyte Mb can't remember the code. but it's a socket LGA 775 mb

BTW any good idea's for a cpu to run with the ati 4890???

A new GPU as many have said, maybe a new HDD if you're running out of space. Getting more RAM - if you're on 32bit XP you'll only see a max of 3.5GB - hold off the getting more RAM and first update the GPU.

If the perfomance sucks - as in the drive thrashes a lot - upgrade the RAM to a total of 4GB although 3GB should be enough, heck most games and applications under XP don't even utilise 2GB fully.
