I have my Telkom 100WR2 Router connected using a Intl browsing account for my staff and have another PC PPPOE'd through the same router with various other accounts at various times for downloading.

Now what risks have I got to my internal network through this PPPOE connection because I know the routers firewall is not protecting me (is this right?)

If indeed that PPPOE connection is un-firewalled, will Windows firewall do the trick (XP with SP3)or do I need something stronger? I am looking for peace of mind more than anything else.

If you have set the router in bridge mode and you have created a connection in Windows, then this connection will "pass-through" your router ans won't be protected by the router's firewall. However, it will be protected by Windows firewall if it is enabled on the machine (should be by default) and the connection has not been excluded from Windows firewall protection.

Since your are using XP SP3 I would say that you have pretty decent protection. It you are only looking for basic protection, it will suffice. You could also try the free Comodo firewall which has more features.
