What snake is this ?

Mostly the more pointed snout and distinct single chevron on the neck. Dasypeltis usually have a couple of thinner markings above the neck towards the snout (on the head) in addition to a chevron and sometimes that chevron is split.

Head shape and keeled scales are actually easier to see on dasypeltis inornata (southern brown eggeater)

Looks like one of these guys (the 2nd snake), maybe you should give this guy a call.


 
We had a Cape cobra in our block on Thursday morning (Kenilworth, CT). Scared the hell out of the cleaners. I was 100% certain of the species ID, and managed to secure the area, until the SPCA guy came. I didn't get a decent photo, but one of my neigbours did.

P.S. One of my contacts gave me Tyrone Ping's name, but I was unable to contact him.

If in doubt, ASI advertise their number. I believe it's Johan Marais personal no. My doc called him when I was bitten a few months back. Very helpful guy. My first snake book was written by him (80s).
