So after running Windows on a MacBook Air for the past couple of years, I'm upgrading to a 13" Retina.

Heard Windows still looks a bit bad on the Retina display so I'll be giving OSX another go. I got the following software lined up installation:

1Password 5.0.2
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2014 v5.7.1
Adobe Creative Cloud
Airmail 2.0.3
Autodesk SketchBook Pro 2015 7.0.0
Cocktail.v8.1
DxO.OpticsPro.v10.1
Entropy 1.6.0
iStat Mini 1.0
Living Weather HD v3.2.0.
Parallels Desktop
Perfect Photo Suite 9.02
Screens
Things 2.5.1
UnRar
VLC

Am I missing anything important/useful?
Going to give iWorks a go instead of installing Microsoft Office.
Edit: Obviously prefer Retina enabled apps.

Thanks!

I dont use VLC... Use MPlayer X as its way better, they used to be in the app store but no more as the app store limitations would have forced them to remove alot of awesome functionality... just google it and you will get their website to download it.

I use Caffiene for those times when i dont want my Mac to Sleep as i have set it to require login everytime.

Mac doesnt write to Windows drives so download Paragon HFS software sot hat you can write to windows drives... its $20 but its worth it compared to all the issues you have everytime there is an update for mac and you have to retweek the free versions (Tuxera NTFS which requires 2 other softwares to work)

Office (I am waiting for 2015 version which will be worth it... current one degrades system performance)

For old school games i use OpenEMU best project on the planet and only for mac...

if you are a developer there is alot of applications (ATOM, espresso, MySQL Workbench etc)

You seem to have yourself sorted with regards to photo's

I have garageband, Logic pro, final cut and the imovie and iphoto softwares for each of their uses

I converted from Windows and I found that if you get used to using mac commands for getting around it speeds things up, Much more useful than windows shortcuts.

Only problem is pace so I have had to use Symbolic link software to allow me to install applications that i dont use often to another drive or trick the system to think its locally store...

I use alot of apps but dont have my MAC with me at the office as its for personal use to list more...

Hope this helps...

Just format all your external drives as ExFAT, that way both Win and Mac can read and write. ExFAT is even supported by WinXP if you install the "patch".

ExFAT is too slow, I run all my drive in MAC format but when that random idiot shows up with a windows drive and wants something you need to be able to write to his drive or flash so thats probably not the solution

I find that hard to believe, considering that it was created with performance in mind.

Thanks!

I did purchase a copy of Paragon ages ago.
Will definitely give Onyx a go, who doesn't love tweaking stuff?

Will also check for MPlayer X as well.

I only have a few of the apps mentioned in this thread - probably because I really had to trim the fat when I migrated to the new mbp

Let's see - my most regularly used apps are…

Aperture
Photoshop
Illustrator (both this and PS are old versions so they look like mush)
Filezilla
Office 2011
iWorks
SuperDuper

It's a Trojan. It will cause havoc with Safari. Tabs will start opening to a MacKeeper webpage. Conduit search engine will be installed and not an easy process of removing said malware.

mplayer OS X is okay. MPlayer X is trading on that reputation to do exactly what Lord Flacko says. mplayerosx.sourceforge.net to be safe.
