What the Heck, Rand?

Hey Skinner, I don't think what you sold the GTi for can be summed as massive in any currency, even Zim Dorrahs :D

Skinner - Not only what did you think when you bought gold. but what was the level?

... R8.8959...

PS. I am quoting Rand Sell Midrate (ie how many Rand it takes to buy a dollar. Media tend to quote Rand Buy Rate, ie how many Rand you get for a dollar -- I want to see what my Rand is worth in dollars - not really interested in bringing dollars into SA).

I am off to Japan end Oct on vacation. Bought my yen a month ago at a rate I thought was crap.
As of this moment, I can SELL my Yen back to the bank, with the HUGE difference between buying and selling rates, and still make R4700 profit!
Bloody Rand is screwed.
Still have to pay R15K for a hotel there on my CC, and that is going to cost me a few K more too. Our currency sucks!

... ABSA's already quoting R9.1082 ...

This is becoming ugly.

Major European banks are tanking.
Soon China will follow ...

Hold on, chaps. And I do mean hold on -- don't sell!

I am sh1tting bricks right now.

I have been notified by some of my banks in Europe, where I have Euros invested, that they might have to lock my funds!!

Guys, keep in mind the bank quotes are including their commission and profit margins.

My live currency and share trading portal is showing the Rand as following:
17:23pm
Bid: 8.82.78
Offer: 8.84.08

The highest it traded today was R8.97.31 and it opened at R8.47.72

There is massive trading on the Rand at the moment, it can go up or down by 5 cents in a matter of seconds, which shows big selling/buying.
I hazard a guess that the traders are trying to recoup the huge losses (almost 10% on Sasol shares, similar across the board) by trading in Rand.
