What the **** is sprayed on bananas?

When I was in the UK the bananas were mostly/all from the Caribbean. Much bigger, tender and tastier. Don't know why we don't get them here.

Apart from local industry, cost maybe rings a bell somewhere ?

Must admit I was flippen annoyed this morning @ WW wanting close to 20 zar for an avo. Robbery.

Was in a superspar this weekend, they were charging R49.00 for two, and the ripe and ready Avon were not even ripe and ready.

eh that's pretty weak being annecdote driven. Besides - I've heard the opposite from friends. They supply meat to one of the major SA retailers...considered supply to WW as well but dropped the idea after they realised how much extra $$$ they'd need to invest to meet their requirements. Based on that plus me feeling that their quality is generally superior I do think there is a difference. Very subjective I know.
