What would you build?

Possibly i don't think anyone actually knows for sure.

Xmas is always a good time to release hardware, people have bonuses and so on so i am sure they will push for a December release if possible, people are broke in jan and feb :p, whether they have the capability to do it remains to be seen.

When will pci e 3 hit the market or has it already? Does the intel stuff and amd stuff have pci e 3?

hardware or mobos?

HD7000 will be PCIe3, not that it really matters since no GPU afaik saturates a PCIe2 x16 slot anyway.
Then the next chipset from AMD will be PCIe3 complaint, not sure about LGA2011 from Intel, but Ivy Bridge is definately PCIe3 compliant

hardware or mobos?

Mobo's, amd's new gpu's will be pci e 3 so there should be some mobo's with it. Granted as archer mentions it won't make that much difference but it will for people who didn't blow their budget on old tech.

Yea makes sense intel will release pci-3 i guess archer :D. It would be silly not to.

Are amd bulldozer mobo's going to have pci-e3 i wonder?

AM3+ mobos on the 900 series chipset do not have PCIe3. Like I said, its only the next round of mobos from AMD that will have it

That is a little bit silly though, they are already way behind intel it could have perhaps put them a step ahead but then again i am just a user i am sure they know better but now the amd guys will have to buy another mobo in the future regardless.

So it makes buying amd even more useless now. Then again pce i3 may not be of any use for the next year anyhow.

Why?
PCIe3 is backwards compatible, and I dont see any performance gains from it until GPUs 2 or 3 generations away are out (and can actually use the extra bandwidth). Remember, a top end GTX590 / HD6990 use roughly 55% of the bandwidth on offer on PCIe2 x 16.

So intel will not only have faster cpu's again but newer technology on their boards in jan while amd won't. Doesn't sound ideal to me.

So if i run 2 6990's i would already be over the pci e2 mark and the cards would be under performing? So lets say 2 7990's would actually run slower on pci e 2 than on pci 3? I have no idea how it works.

You fail to understand.....
A top end AMD board has 42 PCIe 2.0 lanes, with no help from a very expensive NF200 chip. So your two HD6990s will be perfectly fine as they both get the full x16 in each of their slots. There is NO reason whatsoever to think that PCIe 2.0 is going to hold back any GPU config in the next two years at least. Compare this with SB which has... 16 lanes (unless it has a NF200)... So basically Intel MUST convert to PCIe 3.0 or they will be the ones losing out from that viewpoint. I wont even get into the fail USB 3 implementations on Intel boards which then means even less lanes for the GPUs

Of course i fail to understand because i clearly said i have no idea so naturally i fail to understand because i don't know

chop :p

A better way would be:

Killa let me explain since you clearly said you have no idea .......

Meh, irritated from yet another fail rugby game. Dont know why I punish myself like this! Do you have an idea of how PCIe works now or must class be put back in session? :p
