In times of economic depression.

Lots of people do not eat out anymore, they carpool, they do not go on overseas holidays, buy less on credit, etc.

As a woman, I have a closet with clothes that can always be worn again, but two things I would find real hard to give up is my hairdresser and monthly beauty treatments. Shallow, but yeah.

What do you *think* you cannot give up?

Internet & DSTV. Those are the 2 main things we're clinging on atm.

Got rid of the maid, stopped going out, stopped buying food at woollies, paid off credit cards, doing a carpool (I drive 90km per day), stopped my wife's reflexology and lastly cut down on cellphone & landline calls. Also we making due with whatever clothes we already have.

I would not mind giving up DSTV. Use internet more than watching TV.

WTF!? In fact, a big WTF to all the comments! Alerts Skinner to this diabolical thread!

I couldnt live without my music - luckily for me, I produce it, so it costs me nothing but blood, sweat and tears (of joy when I listen to it you smartarses).

Internet - yup. I'd rather drop my cap to 1GB or speed, than lose it altogether.

Maid - I'm planning on cutting this down to once a week too

Booze - cut down to R1000pm :(

Given up almost everything already....
DSTV is long gone.
Internet is for work - cannot give that up without becoming unemployed.
Cell phone is cancelled.
Don't go out anymore.
Pool is green.

lol.

Uhm, sex? Wait, that is free.

Seriously - books. Buy one or two a month, enjoy them, keep them, and re-read them.

Seems most people here never really lived on the bread line, or just forgot they have.

When I was in primary school, I lived in a 2 room flat with my mom,dad and 2 sisters. We stayed there for 11 months, eating what we could, sharing everything we had. It was some of the longest days in my life. You see everyone across the road having fun and laughing, but you are stuck with no way out.

Eventually my dad stopped being such a depressed wreck and started working at getting us out of there, with a lot of help from my mom.

At this moment, where I live, we have ADSL, DSTV and food every day, but should I have none of that, I've got those days as a youngster to remind me that it's nothing compared to how I've had it ;)
