Hey all,

So which careers have you personally tried and which are you enjoying the most?

I first tried the warrior priest but just couldn't get into it for some reason. But thinking back ive always been more of a ranged player. Whether it's healing or ranged dps. I think at higher levels the wp would be fun but I didn't give it much time I guess (stopped before tier 2).

Ive since been playing with an arch mage which I have been enjoying to some extent. My favorite character in guild wars is a healer so I was hoping to really enjoy this career in WAR. I think it has potential if I stick with it but I was getting a little bored with it (at level 18), so last night I rolled a shadow warrior.

Granted I only just started playing the shadow warrior last night and am up to level 6. But im really enjoying it. Its ranged dps which is cool, but you can also hold your own to some extent in close combat. It's always annoying when playing a ranged char and then getting stuck in the middle of the action and not having anyway to fight. At least the shadow warrior can swith between the two. It's fun looking for specific targets out of the enemy eg: healers,...and targeting those. The idea of this career from what I can gather, is not to do massive dps like the bright wizard, but rather to pick out certain targets and do spike damage to them. I like :)

The only thing that ill need to get use to is not being able to heal myself. I had a quick look at wardb.com and it doesn't look like the shadow warrior has even a single self heal ability?

Anyway, what are you all playing?

Dude i lvled A warior priest to 18 aswell but rerolled shadow warior only because i wana shoot stuff from keep walls on the walls all my WP could do is heal.

With my SW i can take there healers out from far and drop does blady pesky WITCH elfs health to 50% before they get to me.

But the SW is weeker that the WP you gone die faster alot faster.
Found that my Swordmaster and Ironbreaker does nice dmg and can stand really long.Kinda felt OP playing them.

But yes the SW just feel fun to play.
But if a few Witch elfs sneak in behind the lines they devestate back line healers and all ranged dpsers.

I rolled Swordmaster first, then a bright wizard, loving the Bright Wizard so much more :)

I'm playing Fallout3 :p

Oh, heh, you meant in Warhammer. I'm playing an Ironbreaker. Lots of fun. Started as a Black Orc but the faction imbalance made me reconsider.

I've rerolled a WP and kinda abandoned my R23 Engineer. Really enjoying it so far.

Me and a friend have rolled engineers to lvl togther But after a black orc owned us in open RVR area he was like same lvl and had a shield pawned us both mutiple times.

We got pissed rerolled he rolled a WP and me a SM and we could take on 5 dpsers if i use gaurd on him and well still stand after they are dead.

Th SW is also a bit fragile like a engineer try tank you can pawn most classes even 1v1.
But you can last long with a WP too just have to play him rigth then hes semi tank healer.

But WP only REALLY owns if a tank give you guard.

Ye, I got a bit frustrated in scenarios where I would unload EVERY damage spell I had on a black orc or a chosen and literally not even bring down their damage at all. Also getting 2 shotted by sorceresses was quite tolly.

If you dmg a healer and you see your doing almost nothing to him you know hes got a tank that gave him gaurd aswell the tank takes 50% of the healers dmg means even if you focus fire he wont go down fast.
What makes me mad when i play my WP i dont get guard from random players even if i heal them alot.

Rolled an engineer to start (played one in TR and love pet classes in general), played to 13 got fed up with the low damage and short on useful utility in RVR, now shes my bank toon. Rolled a RP next (used to play a healer in WoW, long time back). Absolutely in love with the RP healing, striving to top healing charts is quite fun, Judy is now level 22 and going strong.

On destro side I rolled a magus (loving the concept) got fed up (see above), also my destro bank toon now. Rolled a sorc, good damage but pretty 2 dimensional, rolled a Orc and loving the fact that I can solo better than any class in the game currently, loving the psychological value of a rampaging green monster goin up in Order healer/caster faces. I know full well that they can ignore me (my RP ignores any tank) but loving the fact that they get scared and run, stopping their healing and drawing all the protector fire on me *whipes hands, job done*. Hurtzme is asking for more hurting please. No surprise that his surname is going to be "Alot".

All in all, still have to experience ORVR, really cant wait for a keep zerg/defence to see if my pitiful 170k wifi connection can take it and for the awesome value of it. I am still to low for it, it seems. Also looking forward to PVE dungeons, ditto on being to low it seems.

Playing any tank does have a kinda OP feel to it.Specialy if you played a engineer and i think the magus is his destro mirro pretty much the smame game style i think.

Try using a 2 hander throw away the shield tanks can be heavy dpsers since they stay in the figth ALOT longer than most.

Yeah, solo I run with a 2hander for now, when I hit 20+ and you can get AE with a one hander I will use that rather. I dont see a huge difference in DPS between the 1h and 2h with the abilities I have. Only reason I use the 2h is for the AE ability.

Reading some IB stuff, the guys calculated there's only about a 10% difference between 1H+shield and 2H at lvl 40 (using optimal spec), and 1H+Shield has much better AoE.

I use a 2Her at T3 though (Botherhood/Venegeance specced), it seems to do a lot more damage at this level, and for levelling doing better single target dps is better, for the most part. At 40 I will go Stone/Brotherhood for tanking and aoe.

Once you see those nice 2 hander crits its hard to go back but on my IB i miss my knock down but on my Swordmaster 2 hander is a must and it looks cooler shield looks cool on IB too.

But you should spec dps and use dps tactic youll take more dmg but will do more and if you get heals youll break the back lines :)
Healers start to run if they see 2 hander tank 1 hander they tend to stadn still and heal.

I use the Ruggedness tactic, and the Sweet Revenge tactic. Ruggedness's extra toughness helps me survive, it reduces damage taken by a a kackload, by surviving my grudge goes to 100 easily and at 100 grudge my crits hits for a ton, and I spam Earthatter and Runic Axe every chance i get while otherwise keeping myself buffed. So far this has worked amazingly well for me, I'm always top5 damage at least and often even hit #1, beating out Bright Wizards. I use a 2H right now but switch to sword and board for pve tanking. IB's *are* OP, I can't deny it really.

Dude i play IB with my friend he plays one two and we own with the 2 handers but whe throw Gaurd on each other that means even if we get focus fired we split the dmg and othe friend.

Can tell you one thing the 2 IB combo works better than our WP+SM combo we play over vent and own took 5 guys on with the 2 IB combo dpsers and we owned :).

I was once a true believer in the shield but after i saw his dps VS mine i am not anymore.

We always plsy togther with tese toons so gear and lvl is the same.
And the oathbrother on each oterh lets us get grudge REALLY fast.

Only when hes online when i solo i play my SW.

Here's my altaholic summary:

I started WAR by rolling DESTRO Chars:

Zealot (Lvl 21): Good solid healer, was my first char and could feel how i made a diff. Animations suck though (slow, and out of sync). Horrible for PvE'ing/Questing on your own though.

Disciple (lvl 18): Nice for solo PvE'ing. It's a very nice "jack of all trades" class, but i never
felt very effective in PvP/RvR . The melee combat "feel" also just didn't "click" with me, something with the duel wielding animations i guess.

ORDER

Runepriest (lvl 17) : Exactly the same as the Zealot. I prefer the RP animations because it's "short and crisp" [so you don't wonder whether the ability fired or not]. Same PvE related suckiness, but in PvP you're generally a mini god.

Problem is, after my 2nd healer class, i started taking strain with the whole healbotting. I realised i actually don't like doing this as both Zealot and Runepriest are in fact your classic healbots...personal preference i guess. I think if you enjoy healing , both RP and Zealot will give you great satisfactio, they're most definitely not gimped in the healing department in any way.

Shadow Warrior (lvl 17): Had alot of fun initially [coming from a healer class]. But mid T2 the blinkers came off. This class is extremely squishy , damage is average and well the whole stance dance+range (imagine a WoW warrior except each stance's skills only work at certain ranges) thing was starting to piss me off. I don't think this class was all that well thought out (yet).

It's too weak to melee in PvP ["real" melee classes already have a hard time, a hybrid with light armor is dead in the water], it's range is shorter than most casters (35-65ft) making them quite often a focus fire target. The long range skills aren't exactly uber damage right now either.

I do believe 1.05 address the DPS issues, but i still stick with the feeling the class are missing a few vital skills in the survivability/movement range [sprint/escape/step type of stuff] .

Another problem is the itemization/stats...melee = str, range = ballistics. You can switch STANCE mid combat, but you can't switch armor/items the same way. I believe there's something in 1.05 about it, but overall you'll still have issues if you want other stats [that are more applicable in melee] on you and vice versa.

White Lion (lvl 16): Also a fun class to play until mid-end T2 when most classes start getting all their roots/cc/ranged DPS skills. I can't really say there's much wrong with the class, it's Melee combat in WAR that is problematic. Getting in range and surviving is an uber problem.

I liked my WL more than my Shadow Warrior for some reason, it felt like i was more effective when i DO get in a proper melee situation with my Lion. I especially liked how i can quite effectively "disrupt" 2 players at the same time [i.e. a tank + pocket healer].

However, the Lion is way too weak [dying from random AOEs, without being targeted] and this is my main problem. I have shelved this class until they give more survivability to the Lion. If i have to fight without my lion most of the time , then i rather roll a Witch Hunter.

Swordmaster (lvl 29): My current main. Enjoying it quite a bit. Others seem to have problems with the class, and i'm sure there are things to complain about, but if you want to MELEE [dps or tank] in WAR...your only real route is playing a Tank class.

The DPS is pretty good if you spec and gear yourself right. But the main thing is you have the survivability to actually USE all your skills. I generally do more overall damage than Witch Hunters/White Lions...simply because i live much much longer. I don't necessarily burst/kill alot of players.

So far my ultimate build is to max out my gear on DPS-related stats [strength and such] but wearing a Shield+1h sword combined with masteries into damage absorption [Vaul/Hoeth] . There's one insane skill in the Vaul tree which puts an absorption shield on your every time you block! That alone is quite scary...

I've found 2H-sword extremely underwhelming. Damage is not that much better, there's no real uber 2H skills either. On the other hand, wearing a shield gives you a BLOCK chance by default [passive] and then there's all the abilities coming with shields too.

Also , iv'e found the 2H sword is SLOW, horribly laggy slow. Whilst the 1H sword is again "fast and crisp" . If i find a shield with STR on it, i will probably never look at a 2H ever again.

Hmm, I found my Swordmaster boring in T2. I kept getting my ass handed to me. I could solo champions, but took just as long to kill anything. I rolled a bright wizard and enjoy killing myself :p

Animation lag is fixed for me after runepriest hotfix.
And all my setting is maxed out in game and on my card game runs supper smooth and looks blady awesome will paste screenies of fraps in large scale rvr soon as i figure out how to post them here.

Haha diab, except for the healers it reads like every class you picked was one of the slightly gimpy ones.

imo, you wanna really enjoy this game, right now? pick...
-Ironbreaker
-Black Orc
-Bright Wizard
-Sorceror

My experiences with the first two have generally been totally positive.

Yea that's right, i have a tendency to pick "underdog" classes. I actually dislike picking the "obvious OP" classes. I guess i'm a sucker for punishment in that way. I usually kinda expect a gimpy class to have at least -one- insane thing that makes it all worth it, once i don't see it, i move on.

White Lion is a good example [so it's still my 2nd in line class to level once my SM is maxed] . They get this ability called "Fetch" at lvl 40, but you'll see the forums are ablaze about this skill. They are pretty gimpy in general, until they start fetching sorcerers/healers from 200ft+ away [the lion literally go and pick up a character and punts it back to you and deliver it right in the middle of your zerg....]. I think Destro can be lucky there's so little WLs at lvl 40, because i can imagine this be kinda insane with 3+ WLs (equivalent to the amount of Marauders) doing this.
