To this day I still have not got surround sound working properly in Ubuntu right back from 7.x to 9.10

Now I just get horrible stutter almost like nothing is in sync everytime I change it to 5.1 but stereo works fine. I want all my speakers to work not just stereo :/ all articles I read on sound stutter doesn't work for me. I must be a complete noob.

Does mandriva have the same issues with sound? All this hype about Ubuntu fixing their sound issues in 9.10 made me download it but I fear it was a waste :/
