What's for supper - Second Course

Bloody hell. The little bit I taste every Saturday morning is too much for me.

Baby doesn't fancy the honey one so much though.

Which one do they prefer? Rice?

Yeah I should stay away. Went looking for Ouma rusks but the cafe didn't have, spotted the Cerelac which I used to love.

Nah just the "original" one.

Or regular. Can't remember what it's called now.

Okay it's not supper...but relevant.

Yup homemade this time.

2 red onions
1 bunch of carrots (half slices and julienne)
1 bunch of leeks
1 bunch of celery (save greens for 20min before end)
1 bunch of parsley
1 bunch of spring onions (white and green separate- cook white and save green for 20min before the end)
Huge butternut in chunks
1/2 a packet of white beans that had been soaked overnight and pre-boiled for 1 hour. Or you could add a tin of beans in a rush.
1 cabbage shredded
4-5 tomatoes diced
2 red chili
Chopped garlic
4-5 med potatoes chopped
2 Nice big Eisbein that has had all the skin and fat removed. Very important or you will end up with a huge amount of fat floating in the top of your pot. Which is gross and take forever to strain off. Made this mistake once, ruined the soup.
3-4 lt of stock of your choice for me it's chicken
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup of good Kikoman soya sauce.
Olive oil

Mix all veggies together and add to olive oil and sauté for 10min
Add stock, soya and Eisbein and cook for 3/4 hours on low heat stirring occasionally.
Pull eisbein out and using two forks shred the meat, it will just fall apart.
Blend half the soup with a stick blender to thicken the mix and then add the meat back into pot. I tried this soup once with bacon and it was nice but the eisbein gives it a much richer smokier flavor.
Add celery leaves and spring onion greens and simmer for 15/20min more I turn the stove off and let the residue heat do the last bit of work. It's a very thick stew-like soup and it's so filling. Taste better the second day too.

All homemade tapenade, hummus and dolmades with a Woolies ciabatta bun for dipping.
