Damnit cerebus.
On more than one occasion I've caught myself watching omurice videos. Skip to 03:45 for the action.

Oohh... the bit where it breaks apart is just filthy

This is true if you go by the pure murgh makhani standard.

I would however say anything in SA not cooked by a real Indian is “butter chicken” which is something very different and not nearly close to the real deal.

Even in that case, I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants (they're the safe pick for larger family gatherings) and I can tell you none of them use coconut cream either.

None of the family members or friends I know use coconut cream. It's all just cream.

I can return advice for Jewish and Sephardic cooking

Any good recipes you can share?

You like vine leaves? Dolmades? I have an awesome recipe for a Sephardic dish called yaprak which is cooked with butter beans and served with Sephardic rice.

There's also a devine spinach and potato bake - also Sephardic.

You want the best and easiest slow roast brisket recipe?
The most delicious slow roast lamb you've ever tasted?

I'm a home caterer

Name it and I shall send forth.

Yeah but that’s what I mean, of course a proper Indian place will serve the real deal.

But a lot of the “packet” option actually state Coconut milk etc as they offer a more “South African” version.

Either way. Potato potato.

Tried them all and find cream makes it way too rich and fatty. Coconut milk doesn’t massively alter the taste while making it lighter.

That's what I'm saying though, even relatives/friends (South Africans) that make it use cream and not coconut curry.

Might just be a regional thing, but I've never seen it being made with coconut cream in Durban.

"Packet option"?

"Packet option"?

Spice packs or sauce bags.

You know from spice Mecca or some of the Asian imports etc.

Will take a pic next time.

But even just a quick google you’ll see a lot of recipes ask for coconut milk over cream. Especially the slow cooker versions, could maybe be related to the way it breaks down when slow cooking or to stop curdling or some such.

Could just be Durban that is cream obsessed.

But when so the recipes I spotted now when using cream also go for very little. Like 4 tablespoons.
