and if the only answer you can come up with is "because i can", well... maybe it's not a good idea to start with.
 
It's quite common to use edible flowers in high-end desserts. I'm not sure it quite works in the middle of that fruit salad meringue, but it's still common practice.

I'm not much of a dessert person, but that does look quite pretty. I don't really see the problem with adding flowers. If we can eat seeds, fruit, leaves, etc. - why not flowers?
 
Caulimac & Cheese with bacon and mushrooms somewhere underneath that thick glossy cheese sauce.
