Gonna do a crayfish braai this weekend.. Bazaruto in Groenkloof selling a kilo of large tails for R450.. waiting on Seaworx in Silverlakes to get back to me with prices..

Aside from that, we will also be doing a mutton kebab braai.. with coriander chutney and some indian mini breads (fulka)

A one pot, tomato and chicken something.

I refrain from defining my ethnic dishes because the authenticity are always critiqued - to put it one way - shot down to put it another way, by some people.

What's the occasion?

A kilo of crayfish for R450? Do you just not like money, or do you find it best to make a braai with R100 notes?

:wtf:

Lol. That's why I'm holding out for a quote from another place. Still.. It's not the sort of thing I would do very often.

F what other people think! You making Chicken curry?Yum!

SeaWorx (Pretoria East) came back with a price of R45 per tail (roughly 150gr each).. much better price than the other place in Groenkloof.

It's simply because they aren't terribly authentic. Adding masala powder to a stew doesn't make it an Indian dish. But a lot of South African cuisine is like that. I did a bobotie from a recipe the other day and the mince part basically amounted to 'chuck every curry sounding spice into the pan'. The result was palatable but had almost no discernible character. If you do want to make a curry, rather use a recipe than make it up yourself:
