Interesting.

Its definitely not the garden peas, onion or tomato paste. I've used those many times before in a similar mix & never got a sweet taste.

Onions cooked in a certain way will caramelise and leave a sweet taste. The chutney could have added sugar.

I'm still thinking windhoek / milk...barring some unusually interaction its the only thing I did differently this time. I'll definitely try replicating it though while paying more attention next time. Sweet tasting recipe without actual sugars seems like a mighty useful trick to have up ones sleeve. :D

Try synsepalum dulcificum, aka miracle berry.

But there is a fair amount of sugar in your list of ingredients there...

In flight meal earlier. Meat was over cooked. Bastards looked up my voyager profile and checked low fat diet.

I managed to steal a piece of chocolate cake though.

Actually most chutney is pretty rancid stuff. Basically chunky apricot jam. But don't let that put you off.

Sugar? As in carbs or actual sugar?

I know the chutney and mayo has sugar in it...everything else shouldn't.

Looks decent to me.

@Randhir: Yeah that weird chem reaction the name of which I keep forgetting. Something with an "M" I think. Will try that next time...here the onions were submerged in liquid.

Maillard reaction.

And yes, sugar, in various saccharide forms in your ingredients...

Had this sweet chili chicken pizza at the hotel. Too much cheese. had a few slices and gave the rest away.

Tonight was a midnight snack. Just devoured this:

The 5 minute chicken, mayo, jalapeno, basil, cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan pizza. Made low carb style...

Had flapjacks for dinner last night. Toppings included apricot jam, grated cheese, maple syrup, nuttella, caramel, and banana (not all at once obviously). Turned out really cool for a last minute get together with my brother in law +1.
